  • Have never heard of anybody having Yorkshire pud with Christmas dinner.
I have only ever had it with beef, as Toad in the Hole or when I was a child my Mum served it with golden syrup.

I love bread sauce! Have never thought of it being a regional thing. I grew up in th south of England & we always had it with roast chicken & at Christmas. Usually from a packet during the year but Mum made it from scratch at Christmas using milk, breadcrumds & an onion studded with cloves.

I'm from the South too and have never heard of yorkies with Xmas dinner either. And turkey = bread sauce...always! Yum!
  • We have Yorkshire pudding with all meat - lamb, pork the lot.
I also have mint sauce on any dinner that has gravy with it.
It's personal choice and I love it.

    I've been Money Tipped!
bread sauce yum...MUCH nicer part of the meal than roast turkey. I'd never had it as a child and now think that some of the nicest left overs are bread sauce, veg and gravy...no left over meat at all.
  • We, too, have yorkies with any meat if there's rom in the oven/time/someone can be bothered
The children have mint sauce with all meats....weird....I only eat it on lamb.
Nobody has bread sauce with anything as three out of four of us think it's vile, putrid, unnatural stuff ;)

I'm intrigued, can only assume having yorkies with Christmas dinner is an old mse custom to fill people up cheaply.

We've always been very fixed in our ways:

    beef with yorkies and horseradish
    pork with apple
    lamb with mint
    turkey with cranberry

It's what I always had when I was growing up and I've passed it on. I've never tasted bread sauce, always thought it looked unappetising. What does it taste of?? (please don't say bread:D).
  • I didn't watch the TV program but might watch it on catchup TV if it is available?

£50 for ONE family meal sounds like alot to me , saying that me and my DD go halves on all the Christmas food and we are spending £50 each but that is for the WHOLE of Christmas , not just one day

I like to indulge as much as possible without going overboard!

Am going to make my own mince pies just for the taste and 'fresh out of the oven' taste :D

It won't actually SAVE me any money but have looked out for special offers on all our food and drink items this year

Got a case of 6 Cava's and sparkling wines earlier in the year for less than £4 a bottle

A lamb joint £7 because we don't eat turkey , was going to buy a £6 duck and was SO fortunate to get it for a PENNY somehow with my home delivery shopping!!

Got some nice choccie M&S biscuits free with the £5 voucher for buying the turkey butter & got a few bits from Cargo Homeshop

I planned to put away some tubs of celebrations , but ate them before Christmas came round! lol

I think it is booze which ups the price so I won't be drinking that much this Christmas which is fine

We usually have smoked salmon & scrambled aggs in the morning but DD is buying that , then the full works for dinner , Christmas pud and then a nap ;) lol

We're not overly worried about the FOOD spend but I have gone OVERBOARD on the PRESENTS spend this year as keep being tempted by the grabbit offers and have overdone it on the ''last minute'' stuff but must admit my bank balance may not be healthy atm but they were all things I had ''hoped'' I'd be able to get for Christmas and the PRICES were IRRESISTIBLE so I HOPE I don't regret it

I like to spread the cost over the year and will probably start again in the Jan sales but doubt I'll have a penny left by then and have 2 big Birthdays to buy for and go out drinking for in Jan too.....

To be HONEST I AM a LITTLE bit worried about blowing the budget this year so WILL have to really cut back in January and will have to try and ignore the sales

( Just hoping to see LOTS of smiles on my DGS's face when he opens his presents as have put alot of thought into his gifts and seeing his smile will make everything worthwhile!!!!! x )
