I think Martin Lewis should do a program with all of the money savers on the old style forum, giving wall to wall money saving tips...no £50 xmas dinners  (we could do much better than that), no bright orange hats:eek: lots of re-using :j 'no waste' talks, :j living better but cheaper :j moving away from a materilistic life :j growing vegetables :j and lots and lots of money saving tips:j
This could be a whole series without the 'dribble' in the middle that tells us over and over again what has already been said lol0 -

That part of the programme is very mse. It saves the programmers money by stretching the material!:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
It's very common on commercial channels. I find it patronising. Do they imagine we have the attention span of a gnat??0 -
It was interesting, but didn't tell me anything I didn't already know. I don't spend £50 on a wekks food, let alone for one dinner!I Believe in saving money!!!:T
A Bargain is only a bargain if you need it!0 -
I'm just about to watch this (got it on mute for the ads!).
Me and OH are having our own xmas dinner a few days early and we'll be doing it for under a tenner with cheese board, meat, pud and loads of left overs. But no booze, being tee-total is so MSE
I wish I had the ability to "live off the land". I think having my own small holding and be relatively self sufficient is my ultimate life goal and it's going to take a lot of saving!!
eta: 20 minutes in before i realised "there's no christmas in this!" it redirected to series 1!!Living cheap in central London :rotfl:0 -
omg that sounds gorg hun. Thanks xx:D:D
Here's my red cabbage version.
Take some smoked pork lardons/speck/pancetta and fry the sliced cabbage in it for a couple of minutes, add a couple of cooking apples (peeled and cored) 2 bay leaves, teaspoon of caraway seeds 4 cloves and an oxo cube. add about 1/2 cup of water so it steams the cabbage. Also add a good dollop of any red/black jam. Steam with the lid on for a an hour or so, taste and add (wine)vinegar to get the acidity right and then cook for another hour or so.
Now the hard part- When it tastes just right take it off the heat and put in the fridge for 24-48 hours and it will taste even better.0 -
Still not up on 4OD!
I'm also shocked by £50 Christmas apparently being cheap, but not having seen it yet I'm not sure what that's supposd to cover or how many people. Part of it is also that I personally don't really like turkey and would never buy it - we'd get a nice chicken or roast beef, so that's cheaper.February Grocery Challenge - £100.87/£180February Don't Throw Food Away Challenge - £0.60/£1.500 -
I rather liked the knitted stockings
But then, I can't knit very well, so I think I have craft-ability envy more than anything!
I remember doing the tin can thing with the kids when they were little....they looked sh1te back then, too0 -
i enjoyed the programme...i thought the turkey carry on was not for us....i wouldnt want to eat turkey 5 days running i suppose u could freeze it but i think ill just buy a smaller one...i found the christmas dinner for £50 a bit misleading in a way...didnt like the way it was straight to the cheapest turkey and lunch isnt really the whole picture imo...what about breakfast/tea/extra teabags milk wine spirits for guests...what about boxing day ? i must be too generous a host:eek:onwards and upwards0

<<<It would be laughable but when you heard how much food gets thrown away in this country every Christmas:eek:, it was absolutely criminal.
And it bought whilst folk walk around the supermarkets listening to 'Do they know its Christmas' a song about famine;) I too find food waste appalling and do my best not to waste a scrap if I can0 -
