FatvonD if you'd be so kind, can you tell me the exact malt vingar technique for descaling a kettle (mine is a stainless-steel stovetop model)? I need to get rid of the insulation at the bottom; that blasted limescale is probably costing me money. Have some concerns about the kettle being out of action for any length of time as I get a bit twitch if deprived of my tea fixes........
I'm not FatvonD but what I do is: put enough vinegar in the kettle to cover the heating-element. Bring the kettle to the boil and then switch it off and leave it for a bit. Quite a lot of fizzing should be occurring. Go back and have a look and if the lime-scale hasn't been totally dissolved bring it back to the boil again. If there's been a huge lime-scale build-up you might have to do this twice. Once everything is brand-new and shiny-looking again, boil the kettle in fresh water once or twice to get rid of the vinegar smell.0 -

Thanks B&T, I will try this tonight in my stovetop kettle and report back on results. I have also got some whoopsied lemons which I will deploy as a second option if necessary.
I am TV-free and have only seen the first 2 episodes which I had rellies tape for me (watched them at Easter) and was underwhelmed, to put it mildly. The way it's done seems to be to find the most ridiculous familes with silly spending and intersperse it with tipsters who are made to look borderline-certifiably insane.
Haven't asked for any more to be recorded as it was boring me witless; better calibre advice up on MSE any hour of the day.Well, this particular OS oddity is about to walk 1.5 miles to her lottie carefully carrying 12 pints of salvaged bathwater to use on her crops; if the planet goes to hell in a handbasket, it won't be for want of trying on my behalf.........:rotfl:

last nights one seemed to be absurd to the point of banality. The young couple seemd not to have a clue as to what they were spending and most of it was definitely junk (magazines and DVDs) no talk of what they actiually thought food and the utilities would cost in this 'new rented place' How she will manage to bring up her twins beggers belief. They didn't seem to have much of a clue to be honest. Not too sure about the cottge chees though I guess it could work, but as cottage cheese is cheap as chips it didn't seem much of a saving TBH0

I couldn't believe my ears when Mrs Orange Hat was having her nails polka-dotted in last night's episode, and she actually said that a 'change of nail polish usually costs me £22'! She obviously has them done in a salon -how so non-MSE is that? Does she not realise that she can actually paint her own nails at home for about £2?
I also can't believe that last night's couple were that oblivious to how much money they wasted on junk and, as Jackie0 has pointed out, there was no mention of utilities, and things like rates, TV licence, and so on, and no mention of furniture and other essentials that this wonderful new place would need. It really is the most bizarre programme yet I can't bring myself not to watch it - I'll be glad when the series has finished!KNIT YOUR SQUARE TOTALS:

I have disliked the way that they make the older money- savers seem quite eccentric. The young lady, who did the nails yesterday, was what people need, because whilst people want to save money, they don't want to look like their great-grandmother in order to do so.0
