hi, if the vinegar is for cleaning, i use normal tesco value vinegar, which was about 17p a bottle i believe, but they dont have it anymore, it does exactly the same job and can be used in the washing machine as a conditioner
I too hated the show, was looking forward to it, but was just a rehash as someone else said, rekon us lot could teach them a thing or two about thrift.0 -
Love the show too, I am a wannabe thrifter/frugal... so I am learning some nice tips, will defenitely do the nails tips with DD1
I just wanted to ask; are you French Maman?
I suppose it's interesting if you didn't see it first time around a few months back. I'm guessing it's on to reflect the 'make do and mend' spirit of the early days of the Queen's reign.
And no, laly, I'm not French but a bit of a francophile and a mum too!0 -
I love the superscrimpers series but it was just a rehash- great if you didn't see the other series. I also thought that Mrs Moneypenny's tips were quite rubbish. Like, the one about the pub-isn' it obvious that its cheaper to drink at home? That's kind of the point of a pub- that you're not at home. Stuff like that just made me think it was all filler and no killer, so to speak.0

As it says, I'm not sure if everyone's so pi**ed off with the programme they couldn't be bothered to comment. My quick thoughts on tonight's first episode of the new show:
- thank goodness the daft orange hat has taken a back seat, someone must be listening
- shame they had totally replaced previous contributors with all young ones (except for the v popular mechanic). I think 'old' old stylers have a lot to offer but hey always had them giving some rather wacky tips in the last series.
- I loved the family feature. I know from experience some people give their children treats after school every day such that they come to demand them but £10 a day!!! What I liked after they'd made the pirate stuff with things from scrapstore was that the child's comment was 'I love my mum'. Just proves that what's really needed is time spent with the children not money.
- Am I the only one disappointed and surprised about how fat MrsM is? To me it looks wrong as it represents 'fat cats' (literally) but also suggests a lack of control and healthy eating. (Many apologies if someone is aware that Mrs M has a health problem).

I was shouting at the telly at that STUPID family who bought their kid a gift every day.
Had it been a book every day I'm sure I wouldn't have felt quite so emotional.I'm not that way reclined
Jewelry? Seriously? Sheldon you are the most shallow, self-centered person I have ever met. Do you really think that another transparently-manipu... OH, IT'S A TIARA! A tiara; I have a tiara! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me!0 -
I must admit that spending that sort of cash on children seemed to say the least very excessive.I think the Mum has to take control of her family and stop being so soppy.Kids want love, affection and time ,not toys and trinkets (although they will try to get both if they can) I went with my DD to the coast yesterday and we took a picnic(we always have done) Lots of cold drinks in the cool bag including plain water. We spent virually the whole day on the beach the sun was free, the sand was free, the sea was free, total outlay for the day was my diesel(around £2.50) 5 ice poles (again £2.50) and the picnic rolls and bits I suppose about (£3.00) so for the five of us we had a day out for under a tenner and the boys had a great day and my DD and I sat on our chairs under the sun umbrella and enjoyed every minute of the glorious weather for a grand total of £8.00.The boys build sand castles and played french cricket and football(Mikey palled up with another little boy there who was autistic, and he played along with the kids and had a lovely time.) I said to my DD at the time as we were 'people watching' kids don't need a great deal to make them happy just their imagination ,a beach and some buckets.Even if I had that sort of cash there is no way i would spend it like that .I have promised the boys that tomorrow (end of the month and Granny gets paid
)they want to go to our local new shop in the presinct (just to say they have been ) its Costa Coffee
but apparently all the kids locally think its the place to say you have been to.Apparently they make super smoothies there .The boys rarely get to go in places like that so thats their treat that they between them have picked out.Weird what kids want at times but hey ho if thats their choice.
Back to superscrimpers I only caught some of the programme and it really is a bit dumbed down I haven't seen much in the way of 'tips' so far just normal common sense stuff that I would do anyway .But then perhaps the age of the folk on there means they haven't as yet come across these 'tips' before I kept thinking Why MSE doesn't have a programme like that I'm sure this forum would do a better job.At times I find Superscrimpers a bit like a nursery teacher talking to a class of three year olds.Surely people aren't that daft when it comes to money if they are then the old adage of 'fools and their money are soon parted' is a motto thats made for this programme0 -
I didn't see the programme this week but will catch up at the weekend. Based on previous series', the tips are common sense and really make you wonder who doesn't do at least some of these things anyway?
I don't think I blame the age of the contributors (I'm 24 and frequently shout at the obviousness of the tips). The only tip that stands out for me as horrific was from one of the more elderley contributors was concerning dyeing bras to continue using them for years - if I did that my back would be in absolute agony from the lack of support. Not from the dye, just the continued use once the support goes.:AStarting again on my own this time!! - Defective flylady! :A0 -
Hi
I get mad at the obvious tips but its the unnecessary spending too, i dont buy jewellery I have a few pieces but to buy all the crafts to make jewellery is excessive - how much jewellery can you wear - if they had been selling it the tips wsould have been better. similarly with the garden planter -- ok if you have old pipe to advise buying it? the family were ridiculous and I noticed the £50 didn't include the girls birthday present!
only the gold feature I found interestingDMP 2021-2024: £30,668 £0 🥳
Current debt: £7823.62 7720.52 7417.940 -
Aaaaaaaaagggggggghhhhhh! I'm watching this on catch-up now. The stupidity of some people really is mind-boggling. Those parents are not doing their children any favours - the girl is already showing brattish tendencies by always wanting more.
I wonder if the woman making the jewellery used the tips about doing her own nails on the cheap, or whether they are done in an expensive salon?
The car guy was wrong - cold, boiled water is not the same as distilled water. Distilled water has no minerals in it, but boiled water has them more concentrated as some of the water has boiled away! If you could gather the steam and let that cool back into water then that's distilled. I'm sure his tip could end up costing people a lot of money.0
