Hi
I need a new phone but want to keep my number.If I buy a new phone on Vodafone PAYG can I just put my SIM in and carry on without all that unlocking ,blocking stuff?

If you currently have a Vodafone mobile/SIM, then yes you can just put your current SIM in the new PAYG phone.

However (not sure if they still do) on PAYG if you leave the new SIM in the new phone and call up Vodafone they will transfer your old(current) number and credit to the new SIM and give you extra credit for staying with Vodafone.

Prior to October 2004 Vodafone pay as you talk handsets were GID1 locked.

This meant that, if you put a contract SIM in a GID1 locked PAYT phone it wouldn't function and you'd need a GID1 unlock code from customer services to unlock the phone (this was free of charge).

On all Vodafone Pay As You talk handsets launched from October 2004 the GID1 lock was removed, so if your handset has been bought after this time you shouldn't have any problems (although the GID1 lock was removed, the handsets on both contract and PAYT would still be locked to that network)
