Flights to Japan

OK, I know this may seem a bit strange given the recent events in Japan but I am really hoping to go on holiday there this summer. Problem is, in the wake of the earthquake the flight prices seem to have gone up. Should I wait to see if they go back down again? I'm looking at £800+ for a return flight which is a bit steep for me

Have you thought of going from Europe, taxes from the UK are very high, Amsterdam for instance has no APD. you might save money by a cheapie flight to Amsterdam, then long haul from there.
Just tried AMS-Tokyo and it was over £100 cheaper than LHR........guess what the flight routes through LHR and onto the same BA flight to Tokyo.0 -
We were going in April but have canceled because of what has happened. We think it will take a long time for the country to get back to normal but hope to go next year.0

I don't know, Tokyo seems to be all right from what I've heard. I'll reserach it thoroughly before I go, but I feel quite confident the Japanese will get things under control before long. They are the most advanced country in the world after all! And for various time/money reasons, this year will be the last chance I have to go for a few years.0

Sorry about resurrecting this old thread but thought I'd best throw in my 2p.
I've been out there for nearly two weeks from early April and most of the worry is caused by the hype from the media. There's no danger (to other parts of Japan) and businesses, shops & restaurants are still open. I do have to add that the national news over there are reporting worries about the hit to the economy as travellers are staying away from Japan (as a whole country).
My major concern before going was that because the FCO had advised against travel to Tokyo (and northern Japan) that my travel insurance would be invalid. However, this has since changed just to "areas north east of Tokyo".
I'd still advise doing your own research but dont be put off by the fear mongers.
