Heyyyyyy!!!. Anyone can make a mistake. It was my husband's car. As I left the house he asked me to take take his car instead of mine and 'fill it with petrol' when I went into town. I was in a rush. My car's petrol. Ok, so his is deisel. I KNOW that now. In fact, I knew it as I returned the nozzle to the machine. I also knew enough not to switch it on or attempt to move it.

I was a muppet, but only a momentary muppet.

It cost enough (in pride, time and money) to get it put right to make sure that I will never do it again!!

I was as at filling station recently checking the tyre pressures and saw the person next to me filling their car with water. Into the top of the engine via the oil filler cap. I did go and advise them that it was not a good idea and to call the AA before they started it.

Of course they ignored me and tried to drive off. They got about 10 yards and stopped in a cloud of white smoke.

Perhaps not being able to open the bonnet is a good idea for some people?
  • So 8.5 million muppets in the UK, out of a population of 62 million.

Do not forget the non car driving/owning Muppets they are as much Muppets as the cycling frat:silenced:

Lets add three numbers together just because they are there.;)

Where does it say that these three groups are mutually exclusive?

The other question is where does it say every one in the uk has 1 car each.

There's about 32 million cars on the road.
(one of mine doesn't have a bonnet though, so don't count that one)

How did they come up with these figures? Did they just ask 100 people and extrapolate the answers?

I honestly believe basic servicing should be part of the driving test, and my step-daughter has been told if she wants to learn to drive, she will have to know at least the basics.
I grew up being taught that if you used something, you should have at least a basic idea of how it works (backfired on my dad I think, when I took his radio apart).
I'm not a mechanic, but I am female, and have been blonde on occasions. :) I have also made basic, stupid mistakes occasionally- they do happen everyone. However, my current car- Proton- is usually fixable (or at least a temp job) with a decent socket set and some screwdrivers.
I do know of a few horror stories within people I know- total engine failure as he 'didn't know I had to put oil in the car- don't they do that when you buy it?' Yes, but it does need changing, and he'd had the car 2 and a half years!
Pistons blowing causing the whole car to be written off- because the idiot driving it didn't check or notice anything. There had been plenty of signs, we had asked him to get it looked at, but basic ignorance of mechanics destroyed it.
I check levels in my car every couple of weeks, and do a quick check when I get in- dash lights, temps, levels, engine sound etc. Takes seconds.
The mentality that it's shiny and new and requires no work is silly- it's constant basic maintenance that keep mine on the road to well over 200,000 miles.

Turn the radio up and the problems go away :rotfl:
