Contract using my address

I wonder if someone could point me in the right direction. We have lived in our house since March 2009 and we've started getting bills from a mobile phone company all of a sudden. The first few times this happened I returned them marked not at this address, however, they kept coming. I have rang the company concerned and they asked me to open it and advised me that the person it is addressed to set the contract up in June 2010 and it's linked with the previous tenant at this address, though it isn't her, it's her friend.

I am a bit annoyed as to how is she still getting contracts using this address when they are meant to ask for recent identification, which also leads to the worry of what other credit she's managing to obtain for herself and her friends. The company concerned don't actually care if I'm honest, as the offender is paying direct debit so they always get their money.

What is the next step? I'm trying to get through to CAB, but without much success at present, so thought someone here may be able to advise me instead.

Thanks
Mel

I don't remember mobile providers ever asking for any proofs of address.

I think you have to check your credit files and disassociate from this person if there is any link in the file.

Really? I had to when I joined this specific company.

Thanks I'll redirect this letter and see if they actually pay attention to it this time round.

    The networks own stores do.

Third party dealers can be more interested in commission then proper checking.

There is a list of what's acceptable and what when it should be dated.
I have a feeling that with some dealers at certain times of the months you could get a contract with a used bus ticket...

We experienced something similar too and kept returning the letters back to the sender until we received a letter from the networks debt collectors regarding these unpaid bills.

We contacted the Mobile Phone network operator and spoke to their Fraud Team. They sent a declaration form which was filled out and all was stopped.

Worth trying and ringing them again, speaking to the relevant team.

If you return a couple of items to any one sender and still get more another option is to put the letter inside another envelope with a letter of complaint stating you have returned previous post for this person, they dont live there and for them to cease sending post for them to your address. The problem is some firms get 000s of pieces of return mail and it takes the days/weeks/months to work through them.
