Given that they appear to be refusing to fit a meter to my property (because I am not a pensioner) and the fact that I live alone, I will pay the standing charge, and for the remaining amount I will pay 38% of what is billed (1 being approximately 38% of 2.65).
Maybe I've read the leaflet wrong but they're not refusing to install meters. While the system is being phased in, meters will only be available for pensioners and new builds but, after this, anyone can apply for a meter (although no mention of what they'll charge for it).
Lots of people seem to be planning to pay only part of their bill or none of it. I would be wary of this as non-payment will probably be registered with the main credit agencies (any court judgements for non-payment will definitely be registered with them). This could cost you dearly in the future if you want a loan or a mortgage and find yourself paying extortionate interest rates because of a poor credit record. And don't forget that the credit agencies are involved even if all you're doing is applying for the interest-free deals ate currys, dfs etc. This won't be an issue for everyone but don't cut off your nose to spite your face until you've thought it through.0 -
Yes you may have a blot on your record but surely this is the time to put society before self in the short term (for the benefit of self in the long term). The economy will grind to a halt if all the non payers are credit blacklisted anyway. It suits the government to keep us in debt.
It is personal choice whether to pay or not of course. It is a difficult choice.Stercus accidit0
