Ryan Air Cabin Luggage and Children

Hi there,

I am travelling to Spain in a couple of weeks with my wife and child (not infant) and was wondering if I could take 3 pieces of cabin luggage instead of 2 as she is not classified as an infant anymore?

If so, can I just take another (any permitted size) bag or does it have to be something my little one can lift?

Any help on this would be appreciated.

Cheers,
Gabriel

If you have paid a childs fair then they have the same luggage allowance as you which is 10kg for hand luggage. They don't have to be able to lift it, but you have to be careful with the dimensions of your bags as they may ask you to put them into a bag checker thingy before you board the flight!

She is entitled to a piece of cabin baggage with the same rules as an adult passenger - doesn't matter if she can lift it herself.

So yes, you can take 3 bags.

Wonder how this works with Easyjet which says your hand luggage can be as heavy as you want as long as you can put it in the overhead locker unaided. :rotfl:

Your child is not an infant, but perhaps you might be taking a pushchair? Depending on the design, I think in the past it could be a free way to take a little extra weight as pushchairs up to 20kg went free last time I looked :D. Yes, see here . If you have one of those which zips up in its own protective cover then I imagine you can pack several extra kilos in there.

"Infant Equipment* (car/booster/travel cot) Fee charged per Item/ Per One Way Flight - maximum weight of 20kg per item (1 pushchair per child carried free of charge)."

Yes I know the writing in bold contains the word "infant" but it is the pushchair part you can perhaps exploit (as long as your child isn't 6'2" :p)

PS ... and when you enter Ryanair's part of the airport near the gates, do make sure you stay together as a family and that you are not seen wandering in there alone carrying three bags - they will pounce on you with "Travelling alone, Sir? Three bags full, Sir? One for the master, and ... No? Only one piece of baggage per person travelling, Sir ... Well anyway, please put each of your bags on the scales and let's measure them too ..."

Suggest you don't give them the chance of that satisfaction or you'll be late to the gate at thye very least and maybe £50 or so poorer :(
  • Hey gabriel959, from what I know I think if the kid's not listed as infant and you've paid the fare for three you should be entitled to have 3 luggages.
