No, the Lambert street is a childrens centre now and has a lot of baby groups (my house backs on to the nursery).. now you know where I live.. :p Some are £1 a session but they do craft stuff.. even with the babies! and snacks and messy stuff. Give them a ring.

The methodists church on Newland has baby clinic wednesday afternoons if you need a different one to visit, I've never had any bother there.

A lot of the churches have playgroups too.. and some of the primary schools.. St Johns church hall do a playgroup on a Friday morning which used to be popular and a broad age mix but a lot of older mums.. assuming it is still running.. I'm sure it is .. Sidmouth primary had groups thursday and friday mornings.. but no sure if they are still running..

no... my soul is as black as it ever was lol

It is run by a group of the mums who attend the church but the don't do converting..

I think the church next to linnet and lark have an afternoon playgroup too.. it used to be thursday but not sure now.. no religion necessary there either.

Depends if its a church group or just a mother/toddler meeting at a Church Hall (like ours).

Of course, you could always start one up yourself. If there aren't any toddler groups in your area then have a think about it. Find a cheap hall (church halls are always cheap!) £1 or so for entry, freecycle for toys, mention it in your local paper, posters in local shops, posters at local schools, tell other Mums, add it to kids websites and SureStart etc (who can also help you in setting one up).

In my area you volunteer if you want to host a NCT session. Lots of people just attend but never host one themselves, or opt to "host" in a coffee shop or public venue. That doesn't mean they buy the coffee for everyone, just that they are there early to bag a big table.

You need to scope out the church groups. Some of them are straight stay and play groups, but others will have a hymn or child's bible story thrown in at some point too. At least this is the case where I live which isn't Hull. If that would spoil the whole experience for you, I can see you'd want to be forewarned!

You could always do a few NCT sessions to meet some likeminded mums then make your own plans to meet up as a group weekly in each other's homes or outdoors? I used to do this with 1 and 2, but have got lazy with 3 and just go to childrens centres with friends with him.

Have you asked the other mum's at music what other groups they attend as they might be able to suggest some.

I used to attend some surestart playgroups (held in church halls) which had a wide variety of ages. Also the local libary had rhymetime classes etc where you could go for a short session then the mums normally went for a coffee afterwards.

Unfortunatly to meet other mums / playmates you sometimes have to force yourself to start the conversation and then invite them for a coffee or to meet in the park after a few chats. I hated this as I'm quite shy but now have some good friends who I met via my LO.
  • Well I will have to brave and make some calls to see which churches do what. Thank you for all your help.

No they don't talk! and they all have toddlers that are at least 18 months, so age gap is quite big and the session isn't in Hull either.

Looking like church groups is a possibility.
