Chancellor's logic - he's a closet female surely?

Anyone else think its ludicrous/funny/scary that G.O. claims he is saving us 6p per litre on petrol dues to his 1p unenforceable cut and because a 5p rise.... that has not yet happened... will not happen?
Using the same logic I can buy myself a new pair of shoes in the sale. Reduced to £100 from £300 and SAVE myself £200!
And no offence to the gentler species in the title of this thread. I am one myself and frequently use the logic described above to convince myseld that I'm really saving.
But when the same logic is used SERIOUSLY by one of the men running the finances of the country I'm truly beginning to think we're screwed!

But the 6p rise will happen, except by Jan 2012 it will actually be 8p.0

only a sexist !!!! would claim that logic to be 'female'.....or suggest being a 'woman' was an insult. Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0

It's very useful logic sometimes.
The Stock markets are a little bit jittery these days and I assumed that I would see my ISA'a plummet by £10,000 this month. So far, they have only plummeted about £900, so month to date, I have 'made' £9,100.
What shall I spend it on?0 -
It's not ludicrous at all.
There was a 5p rise planned to come into force very soon. That has been scrapped.
That saves you and I, 5p, compared to yesterday when we were looking at spending an extra 5p.0 -

so if the government say they are going to raise a tax and then say they aren't they've actually saved us money? or if i plan to eat a roast dinner every day for a week but then only eat one i've actuallyl lost weight? have to say that's not female logic. just incorrect. Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0 -

But it has nothing to do with gender.0 -
politicians all do this.
for instance, when the coalition took over, and the govt's annual borrowing came in at something like £140bn instead of £147bn as projected, Ed Balls was ranting on and on about how the govt should be spending the £7bn windfall they had received on building new houses. windfall? my @rse.0 -
furthermore, at least in this case osborne has actually canned tax increases which were planned and which had been built into the govt's financial forecasts. he has taken action which means that these tax rises (planned by the previous govt, not by him) will not happen. if he had taken no action, then tax on fuel would have gone up.
of course his wonderful actions are somewhat offset by the fact that he put VAT up, and he declines to mention the effect that has had on fuel prices, so it is rather disingenuous when he is effectively saying "i have saved you from 6p of extra taxes in fuel which the previous govt had committed me to", as their plans did not include a VAT increase.
although let's be honest, labour would have put up VAT as well.0 -

Let's put this another way.
You have payments to make each month, and you have to pay them.
Lets say these payments are £50 a month. In April, the planned increase is £5...making the new payments £55 a month.
There is no way out of this increase for you. You have to pay it.
If, in March, the £5 increase is scrapped, how much have you saved over the next year?
£60.
Theres an argument that you haven't spent it yet, therefore it can't be saved, but if you are going to use that argument, you will be literally pouring over articles, government documents, shopping literature etc etc etc finding the same flaw in every single one of them.
Let's put it another way, if he reduced fuel duty by 50p, and petrol went to 80p a litre, are you going to suggest you have not saved anything?0
