URGENT: Selling unwanted phones & unlocking

Hi
I have a Sony Ericson K500i that I have used for a couple of years on Orange. I have just started a new contract with Virgin, with a Motorola V3i. I have not used the Virgin phone or contract yet as I still have a few days left on Orange. I have received my PAC code from them but I have not used it yet. I have some questions:
- I was under the impression they would cancel my contract automatically once I requested the PAC code. Is that true or must I actually give the code to Virgin for Orange to start disconnection proceedings? I do not want another Orange bill.
- I want to sell the V3i and keep using the K500i. I need to get the K500i unlocked to use on Virgin. My local shop will do it for £5. I fancied doing it myself, though, and found this online:

http://www.uniquephones.com/Motorola-Unlocking.html
Does anyone have experience with this? I do not want to waste money on something that will not work.
Secondly, I wish to sell the V3i on Ebay. I notice most such phones are unlocked. Do I have to unlock it to sell it on Ebay or can I just sell it in its current Virgin-locked state? At least I assume it is locked on Virgin. I have not tried using it yet. Will I get much more money for it if I unlock it?
Thank you ... my first time unlocking and selling a mobile phone so please excuse my ignorance.

Your orange contract will terminate when your number gets ported over to virgin and not from when you requested the PAC.0 -

You do not HAVE to unlock it to sell on ebay. However, you are more likely to get more money for it if it is unlocked. See recently completed listings to see how much.
To check if it is unlocked- it almost definitely will be, just try a different sim in it. You could use your orange one?0 -
