Car Insurance Quotes

Hi All,
I was hoping that my car insurance would drop this year as I'm now over 25 years old and my no claims discount has gone up to 3 years.
However I was a little horrified when I did a few online quotes (moneysupermarket, gocompare, aviva, directline, coop, etc) and discovered rather than £646 or less (last years price) my insurance has rocketed to over £1000!
I know that the EU ruling on women's prices being inline with mens might have an impact but I really didn't expect it to go that high.
Does anyone know of any reasonable companies that will insure a 25 yr old woman for a reasonable price??
I haven't moved address or changed car, I had 1 accident 4 years ago which was non-fault, I have no convictions and I've held my licence 8 years so have no idea why it's gone up so dramatically.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Not sure that this is the reason your insurance has jumped so much...has this ruling even come into force yet? I dont think it has tbh.
Im female and my own insurance is due for renewal in less than a month and so I too have been searching . I find that my insurance prices have risen by £25 this year which I have gotten round by removing the legal cover from my policy , so this then brings my insurance down to the same price as last year.
Have you tried all of the comparison sites ?
Have you tried Argos compare ? This is where I got my quote from and if you purchase the policy they give to you (60 days after buying the policy) a £30 Argos voucher .
Also , Direct line and Aviva dont use comparison sites to sell their insurances so give them a call to see if they can offer you a better deal than the quotes you have already received.
As a last point , do you have any older relatives you could add to your policy ? A female would be ideal , your Mum maybe? (as long as they have a clean licence). They dont even need to drive your car all that often , just have them as a NAMED driver to see how it affects your quotes . Try the same with your father if he holds a licence.
Hope some of this helps. The loopy one has gone :j0 -
You are not alone, ive just received mine and its was over £600 this year and its nothing to do with being a woman!! i think these companies just want out of certain cities. I rang up another insurance company and got it for £350 exactly the same deal! i think its disgusting especially at this time when a recessions is on, fuel costs a fortune etc. The government should do something about these companies and name and shame them.
To add insult to injury when i rang up to cancel, they werent bothered! cant wait to see if my dog insurance goes up cos they live in the city!!0 -
I am experiencing similar issues. I have been driving almost 15yrs, I am 33 and married and have had 2x non fault incidents which I was paid out on. My insurance coming up between £1000-2000 and I have driven a fleet car for 4yrs so can't keep my NCD from before then! I am really pulling my hair out searching. Feel better that it's not just me, but I feel like I am being quoted as a young/new driver or even as an ex drink driver at these prices. I use my car for work too0

Although I wish we weren't, thank god some people are in the same boat!
It's just really frustrating, I've been a good driver, I haven't racked up any points or had massives of accidents and the one I did have wasn't my fault yet it seems that I have to pay a ridiculous price to just drive. It's bad enough fuel prices are silly!
I'll keep shopping around and fingers crossed come by a more sensible price0 -
Fraudulent claims/uninsured drivers are on the rise and it's pushing everyones premiums up... a lot of insurers are running at a loss on car insurance also so that's why premiums have to go up! It's not fair because you'll probably never claim but =/ thats life innit0

My renewal quote doubled to £800+ also recently, and on searching l found that Tesco was indeed the cheapest i.e. £350 fully comp. OP, give them a try you never know.0

I'm so glad to read I'm not the only one in a similar situation. I'm 32 have, 7yrs NCB, a clean licence etc. My insurance last year was £227 fully comp...this year I'm being quoted double that!! Am currently working my way through various comparison sites but everything is around the £400-500 mark...I thought the more no claims you had the cheaper the insurance should be!!0

My renewal was the same story. My premium went from £800 to £1500 (and that was the cheapest after shopping around) even with an extra year no claims. I have one no-fault claim from a burglary when they took my car as a getaway vehicle.
With the price of insurance and the petrol prices going up, the cost of running a car is about £300 a month and that's for a car not on finance!
My solution? I got rid of my car! :T0 -
My Tescos car insurance renewal arrived today - jumped from £204 last year to £282. OK, my insurance is small by some standards (small car, no accidents, car and me getting on a bit) but that's a considerable jump. That's, like, 40%
So I read this thread and got an on-line quote from Direct Line - £169 for exactly the same cover* or £196 with Legal Protection added - both cheaper than last year!
* OK there's an offer there for two months cover free if I pay up front but I intend to do that anyway. And the Fire and Theft excess is £350 for First Direct as opposed to £100 for Tesco.
Guess what I'll be doing?
I wonder if Legal Protection cover is really useful to have - I've never bothered with it before.
P.S. I have no connection whatever with either Tesco or Direct Line (apart from car insurance, that is).0 -

Touch wood you don't have a fire/theft claim else it's going to wipe out the difference but good saving none the less!0
