Netbook or laptop?

Hi
I have a home PC and my son has an apple laptop but I would like something that I can type into and save, either on the train, in my lunchbreak, upstairs etc etc I am dithering between a laptop (size and faster processor) or a netbook (cheaper and lighter) All I really want to do is write word documents - I have an iphone for web/emails. Anyone got any recommendations? I am worried that I am plumping for a netbook just because... it's green :D
thanks in advance

If you are only writing word docs, doing e-mail, bit of browsing, and would be happy to look at a 10" screen while doing so....go for a netbook.

If you want to lug around 2KG+ (which soon becomes 4KG, then 8KG, etc) just because it will have a faster processor (which won't write the letter any quicker, but it will spank the battery), go for a laptop.

I'd go for the netbook. I have a laptop and took it out for 1 day and swore never to do it again so, considering I have a PC, it's just lying in a drawer unused. If you have to walk anywhere and have anything else to carry then it becomes heavy and annoying rather quickly. I was actually just talking to a friend on msn who has done his shoulder in by taking a laptop on a business trip with him.

My brother, on the other hand, has a netbook and takes it everywhere - he travels a lot and finds it really useful for taking on holiday and using to research what to do that night on free wifi spots. He's also a journalism student and finds it useful for typing things up. I'd say the only bad thing about the netbook is that its small size can make it rather fiddly if you're doing anything a bit more complex than typing such as formatting documents on a large scale or using it to look up numerous things at once then the small screen is annoying and you'd want a mouse.

external usb cdrom drives are cheap enough nowadays. I'd opt for a netbook too for your needs OP /

You could also look at 13.3" laptops which run on the I3 ULV processor - so will be a fair amount quicker than a netbook...and green, and compact!

I personally found the screens on netbooks were a little bit too small when using for anything longer than 45 mins.

The only thing you need on a netbook is USB ports, wifi, network point and a monitor port.

The idea is that it is cheap, slow and light and that you can take it everywhere.

For word processing note that you will have a number of computers limit on your Microsoft Office disk (of 1 or 3 I think). If you are only writing letters or anything which doesn't use the more complex functions of Word, I'd recommend getting Open Office for free.
