I even refund Paypal fees they have lose for getting the money (because it is more than the initial payment they sent).

Sorry, what do you mean by that? If you refund via Paypal, the fees are reimbursed automatically (unless you have lost a dispute).

What I mean (the above 2 comments) - I see it is not worded very well. If I owe someone £3.50 I will send them £4 because THEY will lose money on a payment I send to them. If I refund the payment it will not be enough because I would owe them more for postage they incurred on sending the faulty item to me.

Does that make sense - or not? In a lot of pain, brain not working well at this predcise moment so I hope I have worded it correctly. I did not in the other sentance. I've always done that, even when I ran my business though eBay, covered their fee as well.

Why are you encouraging her to open a dispute. That all contributes to your seller compliance. Also if it got escalated and and you lost which you would you do not get refunded your paypal fees.

Because the fault cannot be photographed, it is inside.

Because she is refusing to return it to me.

What else am I supposed to do? Go and collect it from her?

I will not lose because when she returns it to me, she will get a refund. It clearly states that eBay expects her to return it by a trackable method. A pre-paid envelope that she wants, is NOT a trackable method.

I have no issue in refunding it. I will not however, give someone the chance to scam me by saying something is not working, when it is, and getting a full refund for it. Especially someone who is threatening me with violence if they do not get their own way. You/d not stand for in the street so why over the internet? There are people out there who make a living off eBay by saying something is broken or has not arrived after the seller has left feedback so they get a full refund. They are usually the ones who aggressively ask for a refund before anything else.

Well done for standing your ground, looks like a neg is on its way, but rather that than give anything to scum for free.

Because it is not physically broken on the outside. It is a toy and she reckons it is not working - we tested everything before it left and it was working.

Fair enough, a photograph won't do then. I would just be polite and hold out for the return. If you have e-mail proof that she refuses to return the item, would that not be enough to win a case in your favour?

well done on refusing to be scammed and thus possibly saving some other poor sod from this. now take a deep breath, accept a neg *will probably be coming, and move on.
(*you could always follow up any neg with a simple comment like "pls contact me for the true story behind this.." )

Something I sent has been damaged in the mail and the customers is ANGRY because I sent it broken (it was working when we sent it and really, I've got better things to do than send something broken - I've got good feedback!!). I've told her to return it and I would refund all the postage costs but no, that is not good enough, why should SHE has to pay out of her own pocket. I have told her I will refund the costs of her postage because she needs a tracking number. No, still not good enough.

I simply tell them that until its returned, there is no refund. I also tell them that I put security marks on everything I sell and if it comes back without them, I report them to the Police. Its interesting how many people decide they can manage to live with a supposed broken item when you point that out.

How I deal with rude buyers.

Inform them where to return the item.

Block them for ever bidding on my items ever again.

    End communication.

One thing she has failed to realize, if you really are a meanie and have sent her a broken item on purpose, if you were to send her a pre-paid envelope and she returned it to you without tracking, you could just say you never received it and not issue her a refund.

I've had a buyer this week claim that some plastic disposable plates were mis-described. She thought they were melamine ones, and didn't read the title nevermind the advert. She bought 25 packs of em so I told her return all the packs and I will refund you for any unopened ones, after her being abusive, and threatening, it turned out she had opened all 25 before she realised they were not what she wanted and was trying to use abuse and threats to get a refund /facepalm
