Really need some advice ...we've been saving up for forever for our trip to new york this Christmas- looking around the first week in December.
i have been watching flights for the last few weeks and they have been constantly around the £450 mark... Found a lovely hotel etc etc so got all excited and decided to book last night........flights up to almost £520!!!!!:(
I have checked again today and they are £490-£520 I am absolutely gutted! we wanted to book early so we can pay off the holiday and start saving for spends etc and I just dont know what to do for the best now..
I have trawled the net, been on every flight scanning website there is and deleted all cookies etc....
I'l be devastated if we book now for almost £500 and they come down to £300 in a few weeks but then I will be MORE devastated if they go up to £600!!!! any advice gratefully received- never booked long haul flights before so I am bit out of my depth!:(
thanks

might not be much help, but just booked our american adventure for this december, flying 10th december, returning on the 23rd. it consists of
flights to new york (newark) 1 night in new york (budget hotel), car hire for 7 days. a 4 night stay in roseville, michigan. 2 nights at niagara falls (sheraton on the falls) and 6 nights in new york ( paramount hotel

Hi there
What is your total budget for flights and hotel? Have you tried pricing up together?
One tip - If your hotel has a good cancellable rate book it now that way you won't be faced with your hotel going up too! If you end up pricing up elsewhere etc you can always cancel it as long as its within the specified time
What are your dates and where are you flying from? Also what airline were the flights with?0 -

thanks so much for your replys- ok here goes:
the hotel we loved was a "no cancellation deal" so its not worth booking that and losing out depending on this flight situation- found flights with delta and ibeiria both at approx £450- now flights with KLM come out cheapest at £490.
Budget- well £900 tops really- I know we could go in a lower class hotel or further out of new york but as I know we'll never do it again i sort wnated it how i wanted it if that makes sense and with us only going for 5 days didnt want to consider non direct flights.
flying from manchester- tried london flights and they're not any cheaper when u take trains there into consideration so that was out too.
pricing up flight and hotel together and expedia were cheapest at £995 but that was with rubbish flight times....I know it probably seems like Im not willing to compromise- I know I might have to but you know when you've found exactly what you want once and then 12 hours later its all changed! so annoyed!
Im just wondering whether the flights will fall back down again if I left it a few weeks or whether they'l just keep climbing from here and ive missed my boat? ( or plane!! ha ha )

What are your travel dates?
Lol its really difficult to say re flights I booked in January for April and the flights were £500 - I was curious to see what happened and the prices went up slightly by £60 but then came down the cheapest to about £480
The options are that those were the cheaper seat prices and they have sold out or the prices will come down or go up - Its so difficult to predict
I would say if you have found alternative flights at the price and time you want then book them and don't check again (although its soooo tempting lol)0 -
Also out of interest what hotel are you going for?0

Note that the flights you are considering are almost certainly not direct. KLM would involve changing 'planes in Amsterdam, while with Iberia you would change in Madrid.0

My wife went last year to the Novotel,it had a balcony overlooking times square and she was very impressed and she flew direct with continental from Manchester. It was booked with sky travel and cost about £690 for 5 nights all in.0

Could be sold as KLM operated by Delta or sold as Iberia operated by BA.0 -
I wouldn't panic. Barring further significant rises in oil price, I would expect that you can book NY flights for the first week of December around the £350pp mark around September / October. Price fluctuation works both ways and early December is not the busiest time of year.
Keep an eye out for flight sales nearer the time and for possible discounts, especially on Opodo (they have had several promotions in the past with £20 - £30 off for flights above a certain value).0
