This is a copy of an email I received this morning - including "Halifax logo & pic of Howard" (and I'm not a customer of Halifax bank).
"Dear Client of the Halifax Internet banking,
Technical services of the bank are carrying out a software upgrade for the maximum convenience for the users of online services of the Halifax Bank. We earnestly ask you to visit the following link and to confirm your bank data.
....link location....
This instruction has been sent to all Halifax Bank customers and is obligatory to follow."
Hidden in "invisible writing", ie, you can only see it when you left click and drag your mouse over it, on the same page it says:-
"In other words Funny in 1939 What a painful loss. Black History month."
Incidentally, the "to" address is : fran.dunn@virgin.net, which is not my name or email address.

I had the same one yesterday and also a Lloyds Bank email. I was suspicious because I dont bank with the Halifax so I contacted Lloyds via their website. They are investigating this but no bank would ask you to confirm your security details in such a way.“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0

I haven't had the email but it's particularly dodgy if you do as they are actually doing something to their site at the moment.Annabeth Charlotte arrived on 7th February 2008, 2.5 weeks early0

I always get the odd so call email from banks. I called them up a few times to alert the situation but now ive given up. There just too many of the conning links. Never does a real bank ask for your input of all your details.Olympic 2007 challenge Started 9 Jan 2007[strike]Aim Silver 2007.00[/strike] Aim Gold 3007.00 Achieved so far:782

The invisible text is a way to get round spam filter and junk email blockers. It rarely works that well, but it is normally treated like a useful email by the email server or email program so is allowed through.

I've had this too but they sent it to an e-mail address that I don't have registered with the Halifax so I knew it had to be someone having a laughOrganised people are just too lazy to look for things

I think I must have got this as well. I noticed last night from my email log that a email from halifax.co.uk had been downloaded, but either the spam filter or virus filter automatically deleted it, so I had no idea what it said.0

At least the email wasn't advertising Howard Brown's latest TV Advert!!
I even understand that he's releasing a pop record!!!

He and "his" adverts suck. I have never been a fan of adverts, but do people class that as entertainment instead of just another stupid ad?
Dear me this country has a lot to answer for0 -
And I've just got one of these emails with Barclay's branding as well. Looks like there's a new batch of these email's doing the rounds targeting British banks.0

<touch wood> I've not had any this time around but last time they were doing the rounds I had several, often from banks I don't even use, as well as dodgy Ebay and Paypal ones saying similar things, usually threatening closure of your account unless you click "here"
If ever you are in doubt as to the validity of an email like this, DON'T click on the link in the email (this takes you to a site where they can grab all your details) but use the bank's proper website to check out any problems."An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"
