cannot have o2 homeline if on legacy broadband

I was just told I cannot have o2 home phone unless I switch my o2 legacy standard package to any of their new packages. They also said if i switch my phoneline to sky or talktalk, they won't be able to provide broadband service at all, but they have no idea if primus would be compatible.

Is there anybody here have both o2 broadband legacy package + primus phone line? Thanks.

    Why would anybody even consider Primus?
  • Price, presumably... same as why people go with BT and Talk Talk, I guess. It's not the customer service, that's for sure..

    Primus line rental and O2 should work together since Primus is a Wholesale line rental provider.

    They are mugging you off, there is no technical reason you can't have O2 Homeline on your existing package.

    They want their customers off the old packages, they are just hoping you'll believe it can't be done for technical reasons and give in.

    I personally think O2 are going seriously downhill these days, and if it wasn't for the fact that the Virgin media "Superhub" is such a piece of s**t it can't handle 2 games consoles online at the same time (which I am going to fix by overwriting the VM firmware) then I would have ditched O2 ages ago.

    How does your Superhub cope on 100Mbps? It reported its cpuload over 10 seconds at 40% while I was downloading flat out via http (~ 10 threads) on 50Mbps which I thought was pretty high. I think it would really struggle on 100Mbps P2P during the unshaped periods.

    I don't use P2P Kwik (never have done), but I also noticed the CPU load seems a tad high on occasions (probably yet another !!!! up when VM rewrote the Netgear firmware).

    When a decent firmware turns up (either from VM or a 3rd party), that will hopefully sort the problem. Failing that, I can always use my own router and set up a DMZ in the Superhub so it points to it (obviously all routing functionality in the Superhub needs to be disabled)

    Speed wise I'm getting pretty much what I pay for so I'm happy there, it's just the crap kit they supply that is an annoyance.
    The kids are OK for now with their PC's/Consoles as they are using the O2 broadband while we have the 100Mbit downstairs, but that solution is costing £30 a month minimum by the time the cost of the phone line is factored in.
    I'm not overly bothered by the £30 itself, it just bugs me that VM couldn't get something so simple right the first time (good to see they aren't detracting from tradition though :D )

    {still off-topic (sorry)}

    I don't use P2P either but lots do and I reckon they'll find the Superhub can't hack it. VM needn't have shelled out on all that shaping kit after all :).

    I doubt we'll see a third party firmware for the hub because it would need to support the cable modem section too. Simplest option will be to put the Superhub into bridge mode and use your own router once that option becomes available. My routing needs are not great though so I'll probably stick with just the hub and hope the new firmware irons out some of the annoyances. I did try my old router in the DMZ to compare the wireless and it wasn't actually much better so maybe the moans about the hub WiFi are exaggerated. I'm all gigabit wired and only use WiFi for phones and an iPad and it seems to be adequate for that.

    I had Primus + O2 before I moved the phone to O2, it worked fine, they just use carrier pre select.

    I was also told this back in October. Didn't think it was right. They insisted I change my broadband package to add the line rental. I now have Primus line rental + O2 broadband - works fine. Although I'm not happy about the recent price hike by O2!
