Given that one of my two main reasons for potentially leaving Orange is the poor indoor reception in one of the locations I use the phone, I'm intrigued by this. However I understand that UMA is only available on certain Blackberry Phones and one of the LG phones, none of which I'm interested in.

I have heard of the Android app Kineto which enables UMA, however I read this was only going to be pre-loaded onto certain handsets and only on the Orange network. From this I assume that it's only available on handsets with Orange firmware and not unbranded ones. Since the other reason I wanted to leave was branded handsets, this might present a problem.

On that note, how well does the UMA calling work anyway? (And why is nothing ever bl**dy straightforward when choosing a mobile phone contract!

I have my Blackberry Pearl 3G connected via a DLink DIR-615 ethernet cabled from the Orange livebox (its wireless is pants for stable wifi UMA connection) so I locked my DLink and Pearl to N wireless only and activated the Quality Of Service in DLink set-up and its so stable Kerr Katona's seething jealous....

UMA needs 90kbps upload and download as a minimum and ideally QOS on the router....Orange Livebox fails on the QOS count

Any idea about affordable QoS routers for cable broadband? (You seem to know everything else!)

I had a blackberry on orange for 5 months, the UMA was utterly useless, it more often didn't work and it stopped working altogether in January 2011 so I left orange then.
