Ebay comment

Hi, i recently sold some bras on ebay my mum bought that were too small for my sis. there were two packs of two bras i auctioned seperately. they were brand new with tags however mum could not take them bak to asda as they were sale.

one customer recieved them and was very happy, the next just messaged to say they smelt damp and looked quite tatty.

i dont understand how this could be possible and im not too sure what to do, i feel they dont deserve a refund as they were brand new?! :(

please help?

Ask them to return them for a refund if they aren't happy.

would i then also be obliged to give extra money back so the buyer can post the item back, and do i wait until i recieve the item at my house to issue the refund? thanks for your help

Offer to refund after they've sent the item back to you by tracked post. (Better than arguing about it then having a disgruntled buyer on your hands.)

Always wait to receive the item back before refunding. The refund must be the original cost plus p&p paid by the buyer and is done by pressing 'refund' beside the transaction in PayPal.

You're not obliged to refund the buyer's return postage costs. If there is a problem with the item then a good seller would refund postage later to ensure the buyer's not out of pocket.

In this case, sounds like 'buyer's remorse'. Doesn't fit them, most likely. I wonder what state the item will be in when returned to you? Hmmm...

If the item comes back not in the same state as when sent, you can contact eBay.

As above, although I'm not sure I would use tracked; proof of postage is enough for a Royal Mail claim if it goes missing.

Glad you got it sorted OP.

Just wanted to clarify about returning it tracked:

If a buyer wishes to return an item then they must send it tracked, or an unscrupulous seller can claim that they never got it back and so paypal/ebay will not make them refund. Proof of postage may help them claim for a lost item through Royal Mail, but it must be tracked to win a paypal/ebay dispute as you need to enter the tracking details to prove the seller has received it back. The risk is admittedly small as I like to think that most ebay sellers are honest and would send the refund regardless once they got the item back, but better to be safe than sorry! (Obviously for a low cost item you might decide it is worth the risk rather than paying the extra for tracking).

Asda, when I worked as a Customer Service person there, had a no excuses guaranteed policy. Unless this has changed, they should have refunded you no questions asked.

Aah, has changed slightly since my days.
    George fashion range

The George range is covered by our ‘100 Day Quality Guarantee.’ If for any reason you are not completely satisfied with your George clothing purchase, simply return it within 100 days for an exchange or refund (exclusions apply).

Exclusions are Accessories (not made from cloth), footwear and jewellery; these are covered by our 28 day ‘Changed Your Mind’ policy. George bedding can only be returned if faulty or misdescribed due to hygiene reasons.

Faulty or misdescribed products are returnable within a one year period from purchase. (*See ‘inherent faults’.)

A receipt or proof of purchase is required for all George clothing, accessories, footwear and jewellery before an exchange or refund will be given.

As the OP is the seller and not the buyer she would be better advised to just ask for Proof of Postage, especially if she is paying the return postage cost. As a seller we would only have asked for tracking from the buyer if the item is above 100 first class stamps in value+postage.
