one of my cats always gets worms. we give her the tablets to get rid of them, but i was wondering if anyone had any ideas to stop her getting them. i.e putting something in her food.

I don't think you can actually stop this happening, esp if cat goes outdoors and hunts mice etc. do you worm regularly, every 3 months with a good worming tablet eg drontal?0

Firstly do you treat fleas too - as they contribute to worms.
Also don't bother with supermarket/pet shop tablets they don't work. You need Drontal or something similar which you can get online without a prescription about £1.80 a tablet.
As my cat is a big hunter when I rang drontal helpline they class this as high risk so advised me to worm him every month so I do this when he is hunting. Things have been quiet for a few months but he just started bringing mice in again  last week!
ps. Not sure if there is anything that prevents worms? Drontal is just to kill them if they have worms."Things can only get better.................c/o D:Ream #The 90's"

Another vote for Drontal. And if your cat is a keen hunter you need to worm every month.0

Hi
I thought my cat had worms when she would eat almost her own body weight in food but it turned out she had a thyroid problem. My advice is to check the diagnosis. The Cabbage

Another Drontal fan here! Unfortunately, they do need done regularly if they go outside and hunt - have a hunt around online as they're much cheaper than from the vet.Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

Supermarket wormers are rubbish. Drontal is quite bitter though although can be bought cheap on line. You need to treat for fleas and worms regularly. There are a number of different products on the market and most supplied by your vet. It is not a place to save money when it comes to pets health. There are flea treatments that treat worms too, and you need to make sure you are treating for all worms as not all wormers are the same.
And if your cat is a hunter then they should be wormed monthly.0 -
I get Profender spot-on for my cats, it's maybe a bit pricier than some other wormers but gets rid of all worms including tape-worms which your cat will have if it hunts and not all other wormers will do. My vet doesn't recommend Drontal. The Profender goes on the back of their necks which is much easier than trying to hide it in their food.0

My old cat needed worming with drontal every 2-3 months as he was a hunter! If I didn't worm him on time then he would start losing weight aNd his coat would look dull.0

if its roundworms they keep getting, u maybe better off using a product like stronghold or advocate. as these will give continuous protection against them for a whole month, where as worming tablets only last for the day or 2 that it tasks to pass through ur pets system0
