My golden rule is not to let my HDDs out of my house, nor out of my sight.

You knew the laptop was going back for something other than a hard drive replacement, and you didn't expect or want the HDD to be wiped.

I consider you should have taken the lead and removed the HDD before returning the laptop and kept it until you got the laptop back.

I know you are quite upset, but it really is just standard procedure. If they 'bed in' the new components they just want to have a standard disk image that they can boot and leave to run. The nature of large companies.
It's certainly logical, I agree with you. I have most of the data on other servers anyway. I say most, I'm thinking now exactly what else I had. You see, the drive was partitioned and 250gb was purely my keep-safe, for when I reinstalled the OS on the primary partition.

Did you even get back the same computer?
Yes, I'm sure it's the same unit.

They may well have a process, you're right. They should have let me know, that's all.

The process doesn't included contacting individual clients, so you weren't part of the process.....

Good idea. Would they have accepted it though? I would have suspected that removing the HDD might void the warranty.

That's not what I meant. I meant they should have told me that part of the repair process might include wiping the HDD. Unfortunately, they didn't. I've just checked through my emails to confirm.

well I guess we all learn from our mistakes? :( Next time if there's an issue you'll be like..."oooo backup time" :) I know how frustrating it is to lose your HD stuff :( lol

Thanks Kat, but do you know what, there won't be a next time. I'm advertising the laptop for sale right now. Absolutely sick to the back teeth of HP. I know they're cheap, and I've defended their crap product and support quality for years. "I know they're not the best, but they're not that bad, you get what you pay for" was my attitude towards HP. Well, this is the last straw.

First up reported your rude abusive post

You were making a warranty claim, it was in warrranty the Ts & Cs in bold capital letters?

Sorry if I sound harsh but the people who blindly stumble thru life insisting "I never read any terms conditions or other stuff people put in writing to me, surely most people don't? its therefore clearly someone else's fault X has happened because of my lazyness" often need a sharp wake up call that they are not actually in the majority and 'most' people aren't as sloppy as them with their affairs.

Ps No I don't like HP either, they make cheap nasty hardware that falls apart in no time at all
