The Postman

Our postman is lovely (not). He apparently tried to deliver a 'signed for' parcel yesterday when I was out. He delivered the card telling me so today!!!!! This is not the first time but apparently is the 'policy' according to him.

I called Customer Services to ask for confirmation of 'the policy' and was told that the normal policy is to put the card through on the same day that you have tried to deliver the item - on some occasions they run out of cards so do it the following day. This policy may vary by sorting office.

Hubby had just driven past the sorting office so made the journey again only to return with not only the signed for parcel but further mail - two cd's in separate boxes from HMV, a soft toy freebie for my son and a five inch square package too!!!! Wonder when he tried to deliver this little lot.

I have nothing but praise for my postman. He always apologises for disturbing me when he has to knock on the door to hand me a parcel! And if he tries to deliver a package whilst i am out he returns at least twice that same day so i don't have to go and collect it.

Long may he do our round!!

My postie is great. He will always call at least once again with parcels. I have no compaints.

he also tends to know when people tend to be in or out as he been doing the round for years so he knows when people are likely to be in when he calls back.

I never see our postman before 11.30 despite we live only 3 miles from the sorting office:eek: . We used to get our post about 09.00 and a second delivery around 1.00 but no longer. On Saturdays we get limited post about 09.30. Obviously he likes to finish early for the weekend:mad: . No Christmas tip for him again this year:D

  • My boyfriennd became a postman a few months ago and from what i'm told it does not make any difference how close you live to the sorting office. You may be one of 500 houses that your postman has to trawl to. The postal system has changed hence there is no longer a second post. You'll probably find that there is only one postman for your round where previously there may have been two.
I don't think giving a tip is a necessity as it is a paid job, but just think of all those days they have to trawl about in the cold peeing rain carrying up to 9 different mailbags throught their run.

If i could i would let your postie know how desperate you are for your mail early and to make sure he/she gets to you about 7ish. Would that be ok with you on a saturday. By the way we dont do the job for xmas tips and all my customers are treated the same tip or no tip.

My OH is a postie and my dad was for 30+ years so I see the differences that have happened over the years. My OH has been on the post now for nearly 3 years and STILL hasnt got his own round..The reason a lot of people suffer is because they have a different postman on the round every week because they dont appoint a new one when someone leaves..They used to put them on the board for 'picks' so someone chose to go on it and it went by seniority..now anything goes (at least in hubbys office..)Blokes who started after him but are *ahem* not as bright have been given permanent walks,he's been told he's too adaptable and they deliberately aren't giving him a walk. The union has said they can do what they want so he's right cheesed off!!! So please peeps take it easy on your postmen its not always their fault, they might be given the walk very late after someone phones in sick and they might do 5 different ones in a week that they've never done before with just the aid of a map, when theres a lot more to it.If you want to blame someone for messing things up feel free to blame the managers :D

I am not desperate for my post but expect it at a reasonable time. I expect him to wait at the door if he knocks with a Special Delivery, not sprint back to his van before we can get there. If he can get to us on Saturdays at a reasonable hour why not the rest of the week? And why is the post limited somewhat and then twice as much on Mondays!

He can get there at a reasonable time on a saturday because he is allowed to leave the office when he is ready. Monday to friday he is not allowed to leave before 8.00. Maybe the post is limited because no one is writing to you every day. he doesnt choose what mail to take and what to leave he just take all the mail that comes in that day. Have you contacted his manager to discuss all these complaints you have. If he is sprinting back to his van before you can get to the door, like you say you have a right to ask him why
Anyway time for bed as im up at 4.30 to get my customers mail ready for them!
