Nationwide PPI Claim

I just thought I'd share my experiences on a claim for PPI payments against Nationwide.
It all started about 4 months ago when I noticed I had PPI payments being charged to my credit card that on one occasion actually caused me to go over my credit limit. I queried this with Nationwide and said I never asked for this and was told I need to write to Pinnacle, and then it all got very messy.
It all started off badly and set the tone for the whole process as I got bounced around companies a lot to begin with. I wrote to Pinnacle and got a response telling me that my complaint is with Nationwide not them so I again wrote to Nationwide.
This time Nationwide wrote me a letter back which immediately got my blood boiling as it was blatantly an off the shelf reply as it referenced a phone call when in fact I had wrote a letter so suggested to me they hadn't even looked at my case properly. Anyway the letter told me I had no grounds for a claim as to quote them I 'clearly signed up for PPI on my application for the credit card' and sent me a copy of my application form as proof. However this is where it gets mildly amusing, the application form had a box on it saying 'I wish to sign up for PPI insurance'......this was clearly not ticked on the application so inadvertently they had now sent me proof that they were trying to con me out of money and rip me off, I a liken it to a murderer accidently sending the murder weapon to the police.
So as you can imagine I then sent them a strongly worded email stating that I wish to challenge there letter threatening them with the FSA and what not as basically they had now lied to me in writing. This letter finally got their attention and got me onto the Nationwide complaints system. Over the next few weeks despite it being a clear cut case of malpractice on their behalf I had to fill out the FOS questionnaire and other sheets to try and justify why I had been mis-sold something that I didn't even ask for.
Anyway today I finally got the final response letter from Nationwide. The main line in it was that 'on balance' they agreed that I did not request the policy and as a result have offered to refund me the payments along with some interest on this amount that they will calculate upon my acceptance of their offer. Their offer also stipulates that the money will be put on of my credit card thus not giving me a choice of where I put it.
If I'm honest this offer is disappointing and leaves me with a bit of a sour taste. I've spent god knows how much time chasing this, been lied to in writing by someone at Nationwide and yet I've not even been offered so much as a goodwill payment to apologise for the treatment. If this was the other way round I'd have been getting fines left right and centre.
I think I'll be taking this to the Financial Ombudsman as I've got copies of all the letters etc. I think this is a case of their offer of the bare minimum isn't good enough but maybe I'm being greedy so I'd be interest to hear what you guys think?

Hi there and welcome
Well done on standing your ground.:T
I would contact them and tell them as they have accepted liability on the grounds of the policy being mis sold to you, you would prefer to have the money refunded directly to you, and because of this you have already been deprived of your money.
Then give them say about 14 days to either agree or disagree, and inform them you will otherwise consider taking further action, such as with the FOS with all evidence you have to support your reclaim.
Hope it works, good luck and please keep us posted, cheers. The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -
An update on my claim. I accepted Nationwides offer and sent the acceptance letter back to them. A few days later I received a letter asking me for a response as they had still not received my acceptance. So the same day I rang up Nationwide and the guy on the phone said this letter was sent incorrectly and that they had received my acceptance and even quoted from the letter I had sent and was assured I'd receive the cheque in the next couple of weeks.
Moving on 6 weeks later and I still hadn't heard anything or got the money so I wrote a letter asking when am I likely to get my money back. 2 weeks passed and I got no response so I rang up Nationwide and they are now claiming that they never received my acceptance letter and have no record of my conversation with the guy who said he had received my acceptance. As he quoted from the letter I know for a fact that they got it and am again being lied too. They said they would send me another acceptance letter to sign but 10 days have passed now and I've received nothing. On top of this I have asked for the contact details of a senior manager to raise a formal complaint against the PPI department but I've not even had a response. So where to go from here.......
Nationwide are a pathetic excuse for a company it must be said.0 -
I'd suggest writing to Geoffrey Howe Group Chairman or Graham Beale Chief Executive.
Address: Nationwide Building Society, Head Office, Nationwide House, Pipers Way, Swindon, Wiltshire, SN38 1NW
Send your letter recorded delivery, then you have proof it arrived.0 -
Or email the CEO.

Send your letter recorded delivery, then you have proof it arrived.
Proof of posting (free of charge from the Post Office) should suffice.
Alternatively a fax to 01793 657 121 is good as you get a receipt.
Tell them you will go to FOS if the cheque does not arrive in seven days.0
