I think that means it was cat C write off
If it was a Cat C it will be (or should be) Noted on the front page of the V5c at the bottom. And if the Airbag light was on it could be just a simple matter of the plug under the seat needing re-seating,very often these lights come on purely because someone has changed the seating position0 -
I reckon that this friendly mechanic will be making an offer to "take it off their hands".
He really was throwing it on thick.
As far as I can remember the only written off car that you are not allowed to use for parts is one involved in a fire, though there may be one other, hopefully if somebody still works in this part of the trade can fill in this info' more accurately.
This tells me that the OP's mechanic is not that honest, as there is no way a car that is not even allowed to broken for spares would be able to pass an MOT, get registered, taxed or insured.
It may be my imagination, but doesn't the OP seem to be defending any inferences that her mechanic isn't telling the truth.
He may not be dishonest, he may just be thick.
There is certain info' that is obtainable from a cars ECU that the Police can use to assist in working out a vehicles speed at the time of the collision.
Though I doubt that a small garage mechanic with a basic code reader would be able to gain enough information to discover the speeds involved in the collision.
And it wouldn't be the first time that a mechanic has rubbished another mechanics work.
But, I am afraid I can't take seriously any mechanic that says a car is worthless and all the parts are useless and can't be sold, but this same car has been used for the last year with a valid MOT and is only in his garage to get through another MOT.0 -
personally i think the garage has seen your car likes it and wants to frighten you into selling it to him at a fraction of what you would sell it for if it hadnt been in a accident.
trackers can tell you everthing down to vehicle speed brakes etc ECU CANT to a certain extent.
it doesnt flag up ive been in a crash and now my head gasket is going to pop because i'm having a heart attack so many moons after the accident.
shoddy welding? its done fine till now? shoddy would be tack welding the front end on and finding it vibrating off a few miles down the road.
has it passed previous MOT's is the car not performing, handling?
if you thinks its that bad have it inspected by RAC or AA. they will do a good overhaul inspecting body chassis and engine and suspension, ecu and give your a detailed report, if it comes out bad then you can go screem at the dealer but you wont get anywhere he HAS TOLD YOU ABOUT THE ACCIDENT.0 -
Is the OP a member of the AA or such like...
Maybe a second opinion or engineers report as to structural state etc.
The history should be available the cars probably 2-3 yrs old,
every ding thats been reported should be noted...it's the things that aren't that may be worrying...C.R.A.P.R.O.L.L.Z # 40 spanner supervisor. No problem can withstand the assault of sustained thought.Only after the last tree has been cut down.
