Nothing to do with Microsoft, there have been pre-paid cards for this for well over 5 years now which is the ONLY thing you should ever use - your Son at 13 should be old enough to understand that when something has a price next to it (as everything on Xbox Marketplace does) then it generally means it has to be paid for. Sorry to sound unsympathetic, but every time i see one of these threads bashing Microsoft for someone's kid being irresponsible a little piece of me dies inside!Retired member - fed up with the general tone of the place.0

That's when you know they haven't been to the right retailers for solid advice - every Xbox i ever sold was given advice with regards to them, but i do agree not everyone who works/worked in games retail does it. Truth be told (and i hate myself for saying this) but it was the easiest add-on purchase with an Xbox going - for every cruddy third party (high markup) controller i sold i must've got 10 XBL subs.Retired member - fed up with the general tone of the place.0 -
just to add to this
i recently set up a new 360 and you are prompted to select if the PC is a family PC or not(or words to those effect)
so M$ ask this right at the start0 -
I had the same thing with my son. I signed up to a Gold subscription and entered my credit card details.
What I didn't realise and it doesn't tell you that it can be used at anytime without any security options. Needless to say, my son racked up a bill of£100 buying points, as he thought he was getting them for free.
Microsoft said tough and I shouldn't have give him permission to use my card and should report him to the Police.
Microsoft are very underhanded by the way that they do this, and should implement security features to stop this from happening.
I got my money back, by disputing the transaction with VISA who said that they have had many calls about the same thing and were only too glad to help.0 -

They do. Perhaps you should look in the settings and stop blaming Microsoft for something thats your fault0 -
Or perhaps just educate your kids so that they know that when a number appears against something in a shop, that generally is the price YOU HAVE TO PAY to get the item.0

May I ask you a simple question? Do you and your kids know how to read the Queen's English?!
When you assign a new card to an XBL account, either via the 360 itself or online via xbox.com, it states TWICE that your card details will be saved.
And when a purchase is made, you need to push "Confirm this purchase" TWICE before it debits the account.
So dont say they didnt warn you, or your kids. Maybe they dont have enough respect for you?
As an Xbox user since they brought it out, I have never had any "accidental" purchases or otherwise. It has always been made clear to me that I am making a purchase and my card will be debited.0 -
Take the xbox away until he has paid his dues. Make him dust, help you hoover, was up -anything but set a price by things-hoovering and you earn £1 towards the debt(see below_. Hell realise that this wasnt a good idea.
HOOVERING ONE ROOM-£1
WASHING DOG-1.50
SWEEPING GARDEN-1.00
MOPPING FLOOR-1.00
Give him a price list and a note book-you sign off every job untill the money is paid off. He cant use his xbox untill it is paid.
ECT
Hell learn the price of things, and after-you could (if you give an allowence) make this part of his allowence.
p.s-it will teach him about money and punish him-double bonus0
