Tailors in BAngkok

Good Morning all,

I am off to bangkok for 3 days in early december and would like to pick up some recommendations for somewhere to get a a few items made, any tailors meet with with your recommendation?

Jacket wise I am looking for a new DJ and a casual blazer style jacket, and then a 2 piece suit, plus a handfull of shirts. I am more partial to checked shirts than plain.

Any help you have would be great!

  • Be careful, there are a LOT of rip-offs. Most tailor shops, even ones that some on forums recommend, aren't actually tailors, they contract the orders out to big sweatshop factories. Most of the "tailors" in BKK use the same 2 or 3 factories.

Also, 3 days doesn't give you much of a window. You have to get measured and selecting the materials can take a long time. Reaching agreement on a price is also a lengthy process, with most tailors willing to bluff that they have set, unchangeable prices - sometimes, you have to actually walk out of the shop before the prices get realistic. It's an edgy process because you don't want to annoy these guys too much in case they take revenge by deliberately messing up your suit.

Then you have to deal with the relaxed attitude towards time in Thailand. It's a catch-22 because, if you strongly insist that the suit is ready on a certain day, they'll know that's the day you're leaving and they can safely use inferior materials, knowing that you will not have time to seek redress.

I have heard, but don't know personally, that Singapore is a more expensive but safer bet.

I used this company for a suit ordered online a couple of years ago, no problems good communications (checked my measurements to see if I really was THAT fat :rotfl:) and delivery.

Only thing I'd say is that if I was doing it again (don't wear a suit any more!) I'd go for the better quality material than the basic package, although the material was ok and the shirts even in the basic package were decent quality

Obviously I don't know anything about the setup in bangkok, (re previous poster sweat shops etc) but the suit i had was ok.

    i can personally recommend

    Thai Square fashion,

i used them last year, and they were superb,
we had 3 fittings (1 in place) 2 in hotel rooms,

the suit i bought was the best fitting, trousers so well made,

    very prompt.

search on google for details, if you cant get them pm me, and ill send you the email address.

they also will keep all your measurements and ship out further items you may want!!!

    hope this helps

We've used various tailors around Thailand and India, and without a doubt these were the best. We've had ladies and gents suits, jackets, trousers, etc some are nearly 6 years old and still looking brilliant!

I've just looked inside my OH's (beautiful) silk/linen jacket (you should see the workmanship) - and here are their contact details.

    Ambassador Fashion tele + (662) 253 2993
    www.ambassadorfashion.com

They are situated off the Sukhumvit Road at Soi 19.

They are not the cheapest but offer superb value for money - they will be able to do everything in 3 days - we only had 2!

Lots of excellent hotels, restaurants nearby, and close to the skytrain too.

You've made me think about a trip there again!!!!
  • I bought some suits a few years ago. I can't remember where from. But.... the edge of the cloth which I chose said 100% pure wool and cashmere, made in UK. But it wasn't. I wore the suit a few times and I sweat like Michael Jackson on trial. It must have been at least 50% polyester. Never worn it since.

Be warned. Good quality tailoring and excellent fit, but the material may be dodgy. If you can, take the material with you.

I've just looked up the other tailors we used - they were good. If you're budget won't stretch to Ambassador's I'd use Patrick's Fashionway. They are situated in the same street:

    http://www.asiafashion.com/home.htm

Thinking about what we had made for appx £500 (spend for both tailors)

    Ladies
2 suits with skirt, trousers, jacket in each
    1 dress.
    1 jacket
    2 blouses
    1 trousers
    2 scarfs (free)

    Gents
2 suits each with 2 trousers
    1 jacket
    3 ties (free)

This was using both tailors - so we did actually spend 2 days with various fittings for us both.

Quality has been superb - both material and workmanship.
  • A while ago I had a tailor from Bangkok came to visit my friends and me at home and measured us and showed us samples of fabrics that he had. He has now returned back and we will get the clothes in a couple of weeks. I saw his workmanship of his sample suit and it was pretty good. Nice range of material too. I have their website so you can check him out.

It would be great if you can let me know your experiences too if you do try out this tailor. I'd love to get alot more clothes if my first shipment turns out good.
