Overall cost seems reasonable. As always it depends on your location, and in your post you didn't say what size and type of tile you are having fixed.
However, that being said it is about average for the work you are having done.

Get some more quotes for comparison. Tiling is way OTT at £40 a metre. Doesn't look like more than £ 1,200 - £1,500 labour in the whole lot TBH.

The other quote I had was £2330. Two other tilers came around but never submitted quotes.
  • I know a tiler who works London and he charges £25 per m2 for ceramic tiles. Based on that he would charge you just over £400. PM me if you want his number.

The thing I would say about the original quote is that the man is very 'customer focused' and very willing to suggest various options. He is also, despite a full workload, quite happy to visit a second time to discuss the quote.

I imagine that a man who specialises in bathroom refurbs would tend to do a better job than a general builder - important when you don't want a leaky shower in a few months time.

I would agree but the man who specialises in bathroom refurbs is no doubt subbing the tiling and putting his own profit on top. The benefit of this is you only have to arrange one person who will sort the whole job. The benefit of sourcing your own tiler will save you about £300.

Crikey so you've got one for £2.2k and another for £ 2.3k! Can't get that sort of dosh for that scope of work in this neck of the woods. Must be in an expensive "lets price the drive" area. :D

Thats a sweeping generalisation with a bucketload of assumption thrown in.

No, he's doing the tiling himself.

Then he is seriously overcharging IMO unless he is very very slow and still expects you to pay a day rate for his slowness. How long is the whole job (tiling included) going to take him - does he say?
