Natwest/RBS accounts sold to Santander....

I think you may be worrying too much about the hassle this will cause you. Yes, you will need to get a new sortcode and account number. Assuming your sortcode is a NatWest one then you should definitely ask for a new NatWest account (at your local branch for instance) as that means any attempt to pay into your old account will automatically be transferred to your new account the same day. If there are any DDs out of the account the bank should deal with transferring those to the new one. You'll get a new cheque book and if you have a debit card that'll be reissued too. You will have a period of months (maybe years) to advise anyone who pays you what the new account number is so it really shouldn't be too much of a problem for you. Certainly a lot less than if you let your account go to Santander:D.0

and whether your branch is in England ?

My RBS (England) branch is one of those being sold. I've opened an account with NatWest. Simple.0

The one thing that I just do not get, no matter how many times I think this through..
OK I know no bank is perfect, each has its problem and each does get complaints etc.. Understand!
BUT, selling them to Santander - How could they ever allow them to do this?!
Ask any RBS/NatWest customer or no doubt most people that have had dealings with Santander they would say AVOID!
They are what's called a Joke and anyone that allows them to have so many branches like this is unreal... They wan't competition well with Santander it seems to be a prize draw each day to see who gets picked out the hat next, to try and get one ounce of good customer service.
What a mess they have caused.. Can't they just leave anything alone these days.. :mad:David
£1 of debt is too much for me!0 -

If there is any doubt I would make your own arrangements to transfer to another proper bank. I transferred from an English RBS to a Scottish one months ago.
Based on previous form I doubt you will get any warning of the impending transfer, the first you will realise is when any online access does not work.
My suggestion would be open another account(s) somewhere else and do the transfer yourself , it is quite easy in my experience... Goog Luck0 -

Are you saying that the result is as follows ;"Branch Sale Checker Result: This isn’t an RBS or NatWest sort-code. Check that you have entered the correct number"
http://rbsbranchinformation.co.uk result for 16-50-04
or "Branch Sale Checker Result "this branch is not part of the sale" 16-00-38
You have declined to mention your Nat West sort code , so it is not possible to verify your assertion - shall we take your word for it ?Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

It is not the Bank's choice. They were ordered to sell and Santander have the money. End of story.0 -

According to Google that sortcode is for Natwest Direct Business Banking. It's not actually a branch sort code, as those accounts are mainly managed online or by phoneDebt free and staying that way! :beer:0

Branch Sale Checker Result: This sort-code isn’t for one of our branches. Enter the sort-code of the branch where your main account is held to find out if it’s part of the sale.
That must be very annoying then as the branch is clearly in England
