i have a 1.9d peugeot partner combi on an 04 plate. its done quite a few miles but generally runs ok.
i have just noticed the timing belt has a split running through it. i dont think its split all way around the belt but it doesnt look good. thing is i'm a day or two away from finishing a job i'm working on and am seeking an opinion or two.
is this russian roulette if i keep drivin it to get my job finished? probably got less than 100 mile in getting there and back.
thing is this could have been like it for some time for all i kno.
i can guess what people will say but i'm now in dilema city! the car will get fixed as soon as the jobs finished. please help....:(

As has been said, if the belt is showing any signs of damage get it changed - if it goes you're looking at a very major job (if not complete new engine) to fix the damage that will occur.

A timing belt shouldn't take that long for a garage to change if they've got the parts in stock, so depending on the age of the car if you need it urgently a dealership might be the best bet, otherwise go for a garage who can loan you a courtesy car whilst they are working on your car.

not sure wether thats a daft question or not?

Are you sure its the timing belt, these are usually under a casing. If you mean the auxilary belt this can be seen and operates the water pump/alternater/power steering.

I can't see the timning belt on my 1.9 Ducato. Are you sure you're not looking at the alterntor belt?
It's a different, but very similar engine.
If it is the timing belt, it could even go on the way to the garage.

edit - great minds think alike

sounds like its the aux belt (known as fan belt) not soo bad if it snaps but can still cause damage.. may last a couple of days or it may go when you start the van up next.

i wouldnt like to chance it if you run the van with the fan belt snapped then you risk overheating the engine as the water pump isnt being driving (unless its run off the camblet ??)
