dedicated modem?

After moving with my own Netgear router from Freedom2Surf to Tiscali and then to Mad as Fish, I am looking to take advantage of the deals from BT/TalkTalk/O2 but not sure if they will make me use their own modem.
Do you really need a dedicated modem from these suppliers to get their broadband?
(BT told me I must use their own box but
I prefer to use my own equipment if possible)

There could be a contractual requirement to use the supplied equipment (I think Sky say you must).0 -
You can use any router you like on TT or O2.
But of course if you need help they will not support your Netgear (not that TT would be able to help much anyway). No free lunch, and no free laptop
