Disputing warranty repair from Sony?

Okay,so I have a Sony media style PC (bit like a laptop but in desktop guise)
had it about 2.5 years
It developed a fault that I diagnosed as a graphics issue
looked around the net and saw these machines have an inherent fault with the nvidia 8400 graphics chipset
Sony America extended the warranty to 3 years but i couldn't find a mention on the Sony UK site.
contacted Sony and they organised a collection for inspection.
once inspected the confirmed it would be repaired under warranty.

so its back,all repaired
but not quite. they have replaced the motherboard but with one with only onboard graphics
so this gives a windows experience score of 1.0 on 2d/3d graphics
the previous graphics gve a 5.0 plus score
so quite a drop in performance and spec from what it was (its was £1.4k new with dual core, bluray etc )

so after my long story, whats the deal here? Sony have repaired the machine to a working level, but they have dropped the spec of the replacement down

cheers

and to add to the mix.
I now have a Bluray equipped PC which is incapable of playing Blurays due to the onboard graphics

Is the original motherboard that was in the PC still available ( not discontinued, etc) ?

You should (ideally) be put back in a state that your were in before the fault occurred? (because it is a known inherent fault?)

    - not sure if any consideration should be put to the depreciation after 2.5 years of use, but I thought at least they should have advised you / offered a deal ?

well i assume its the same motherboard fitted, but without the nvidia graphics fitted. It maybe they dont stock the one with the 8400gt graphics as its a known fault across many manufacturers.
I even had a call from the repair centre as to what they would do if it was a graphics card issue
they said we will just swap out the motherboard,no mention of not having like for like.

its an all in one machine ,so cant just have a graphics card added.

I would politely request one that does play Blu-Ray - as this is what you have to start with.

If they are unwilling to do that - could you suggest that you do a "deal" with them to upgrade to a model that does play Blu-Ray (If it is a better spec/cost more and taking the 2.5 years into account)?

But, I'm sure someone will be along soon with a full working knowledge of SOGA :T

well this is my thinking and perhaps my saving grace.
it now doesnt perform a function it was sold with.
Im not really interested in paying for an upgrade
I built a PC as i was sending the Sony away.
so the Sony was (is?) going upstairs as a study PC for me,but also a Bluray player/TV(it has twin freeview tuners) for upstairs
also while it was in,I asked for a quote to replace a plastic wire retaining clip on the rear.
£118 ,so dont know if discounts would be the order of the day

They have to repair to the same spec or better, they can't give you an inferior product back. As no refund is involved the age of the pc doesn't come into it. It would be worth complaining about if they have missed out a major feature of the pc.

Could quite possibly be that the Graphics driver is just not installed.

    I THINK you have a VCG-LT2S
    Go To http://support.vaio.sony.eu/computing/vaio/downloads/info/info.aspx?l=en_GB&url=Vaio/Original/LT2_Graphics_Driver_NVIDIA.zip&m=VGC-LT2S&ip=Preinstalled_Drivers.htm
Click on Originally installed and scroll down to the Nvidia graphics driver and download and install that.
