Sorry trigirl1979, I wasn't correct. Thanks for that soolin. I've just had a quick look on eBay and you're right...
'I think what you are thinking about is the way suggested by several people on the community boards of attempting to get round the paypal on collection issue. However that relies on the courier charge being stated clearly on the auction but with some clever wording suggesting that collection in person is possible if buyer wishes to pay cash, however if they wish to use paypal then the item will be sent via courier.
The wording needs to be clever and it is not foolproof and of course the drawback is that seller does need to be prepared to send via courier if buyer does want that. It also means that the item is not picked up if buyers do a search for collection only items.'
So only by offering a courier charge that's the only way to negotiate it, right?0 -
hi i have put on the auction collection only and cash preferred. I have the bike advertised elsewhere and someone coming to see it tomorrow so i think i may just remove the listing altogether and sell off ebay - lots of interest but no bids so I am pretty sure i can just end the auction. You guys have scared me off using ebay but thanks for the tips!0

also if buyers are funding it on a credit card they shouldn't buy it! I am a great believer in if you cant afford it dont have it!0

yes, that's best to end your auction quickly before you have any bids.. Having the bike advertised at the same time as listing on eBay is a recipe for trouble.trigirl1979 wrote: »hi i have put on the auction collection only and cash preferred. Sorry about scaring you off, it's just that it's best to know eBay rules before you list otherwise it can be a real mess.
As you saw even old lags like me can get it wrong from time to time!0 -
Just going back to the first post ... Yes, if you are going to accept cash for that kind of sum, get some means of checking the notes - we bought a note-checker pen from Staples and used that when we sold OH's motorbike. The guy buying it didn't mind at all.:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

I sold my van on ebay and the people came to collect it i told them i would take them on a test drive,
2 of them came (big guys) and they insisted they wanted to drive it i told them i was going to go with them and they could only go down the road and back.
they did not bring enough money with them saying that we had agreed a sale price of £100 less when i told them no i did not and that the call had been recorded
they got miffed off so found another £60 in his pocket as i said they are not getting it for £100 less than the agreed price.
when we went in side to do all the paper work and chech the money one of the men said he needed the toilet.
i started to panic which one do i stop with thinking one of them was going to steel something. luckly the toilet was close by so i was watching both of them closely.
but i was glad when they had gone.0 -

Thankfully I have two people very inetrested in the bike who saw an ad I put out yesterday through work. Even if it means dropping the price £50 it is worth selling to avoid the van situation described here (I am on my own with my 20 month old most the time)! At least I will know the person it goes to and they wont rip me off!
That said my dad sold a horse trailer for £1300 on ebay and had no worries at all. Looks like he was lucky!0 -
You can't put preferred as that is preferencing one payment method above another and against ebay rules.trigirl1979 wrote: »hi i have put on the auction collection only and cash preferred.

Unless of course the payment method that you wish to preference is Paypal. Then it's allowed. (funny that!)
