First Direct customer with an Android phone?

One year on and still no android app. Instead they've worked on a so-called 'overhaul' of their website. Still having to use Internet Explorer for First Direct Internet Banking Plus... very archaic....0

Happy to say the LloydsTSB Android app seems to work well enough - is it worth voting with your feet?0

I'm offsetting with FD and need to keep my current account there unfortunately. It's ridiculous for an internet-only bank to be so far behind the competition. First Direct is no longer an innovative way of "21st century banking".0 -
Android has proven time and time again to be more secure. It is to do with the manifest file. Iphone has had some massive security issues. Especially apple selling reconditioned ones with all the origional users data left on.
yes there has been malware that sends txt to a premium rate number. However apps are there own entity and cannot communicate with each other unless they have specific permissions. Where as apps on the iphone share everything pretty much.
Also jailbroken iphones have been a problem. Android has a larger market share and yes it is harder to develop for in some ways but easier in others. java is easier to work with then objective C. Games written in c++ are easier to port relative to the amount of work.an app like this really is a reewrite0 -
If it is security they are worried about then why have HSBC (who I thought were part of the same group) have an android app
Pretty much all the major banks now have an banking app for both platforms so why have they not done it yet.
They need to realise that once people get bored and realise that iphones are just overpriced gimmicks people will ditch the iphones just like people have done with the blackberry and move to a platform where you have more choice about what style of phone you have (or you could just pay around £500 for the same style phone just with a newer OS - iamaiphonemug - ooohhh look at my 'new' iphone it looks just like the last 3:rotfl:)
Come one FD you offer a first class service both with internet banking and over the phone yet you still ignore the fact that android has the market share of smartphones.0 -
It really saddens me how out of touch First Direct are. They used to be a great bank. I am unfortunately stuck with them, I have a really good deal on my offset mortgage that's too good to switch from (it's fixed to .25% above the BE rate, so currently .75% with no tie-in, and it's for upto the life of the mortgage).
I wish I could, as all the other banks are do a much better job in the mobile banking world, like the recently updated Barclays app.

It's beyond believe that Android having a near total dominance in the mobile world, with over 70% penetration now, is being totally ignored by First Direct. You have to think there is some other hidden agenda at work here.0 -
straight from the horses mouth on http://www.lab.firstdirect.com/your-suggestions:
first direct,
Hi @ blah!.Thanks for all your comment about our Android App development. We are now pleased to say that we are creating a banking App that will work across both Android and iPhone devices(although not specifically Blackberry) to give our customers the best possible mobile experience. We'll be launching our new App this year and sharing more details as we continue through the development process.

Errrgghh, this sounds like it might be a mobile website rather than an app. (as clearly iOS and Android are different application formats, and you can't write and app that works on both) I really hope not, as clearly a mobile website based app is VERY limited in what it can do.
Perhaps First Direct project managers should bank with Barclays and try out their mobile app, just to see how far behind the times First Direct have become....
I think I speak for most FD Android customers here, what we want is a DEDICATED Android app, initially on level pegging with the iPhone app, and soon after, something that competes on par with what other UK banks that are more forward thinking are offering.0 -
Still no sign of an Adroid app.. although many comments from fd on their own website suggest something this year.. only 55 days to go!0
