LCD TV & microwave!

Have just purchased a 16” LCD TV for the kitchen and have only 2 places I can put it, one being on top of the fridge freezer above eye level and giving picture distortion depending on where viewed from, and the other being at eye level on top of the microwave, now the question is, will it damage the TV if the microwave is switched on whilst the TV is also on or in standby?

TIA.

Only if your microwave oven is so old/damaged that it leaks microwaves! And then I'd be more worried about the cook...

Check how much heat comes out of the top surface of the microwave. Mine has a set of slots to vent the hot air out from.

It is about 9-10 years old, in good condition and not used that often, there is a vent at the rear and from recollection the top does not get hot!, but the TV is on it's own stand and could have something put under it, my main concern would be what the microwave could do to the TV screen/picture, if used whilst the TV is on, I don't have worries about the cook , but I take your point.

Can't say I have ever seen steam coming from it, but as long as there isn't it should be OK?

I did speak to the tech helpline and they did say that it could distort the picture and would not advise it, but they would wouldn't they? after all they have to cover their backs so use a blanket answer.

Could you get a tv wall bracket?

I have these in 2 bedrooms in my house:

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LCD-PC-Monitor-TV-Wall-Bracket-15-17-19-21-22-24-/180630660195?pt=UK_Home_Garden_LivingRoom_TV_Furniture&hash=item2a0e6d2463

You can then tilt or move the tv to any position you want, and push it back to the wall when you are not using it.

They were probably thinking of the effect of magnetic fields which I'm pretty sure don't impact LCD TVs at all.

Heat and steam are the things to be bothered about and I'd expect there to be some of both unless all you are doing is dinging a gone-cold cuppa. As you say it is rarely used the best bet is to just be careful and check.

I do have a wall bracket, (above the fridge freezer), but as I said in my OP it is, "above eye level and giving picture distortion depending on where viewed from", (especially when you get closer,i.e from "underneath" or the side).
On the microwave is the perfect height and as it is in a corner does not give me the ability to look at it from the side where it also gives picture distortion.

The wall bracket is not fixed to one position, like others. It tilts up & down, you can move it left to right, forwards and backwards, so it will be in your line of sight (if that's the correct term), therefore no picture distortion. There is a little video of the various positions you can move it, on the ebay listing near the bottom.

I have these brackets in my bedrooms, so even though the tv is up on the wall above drawers, I can tilt it down to the correct angle so I can see the picture in bed for example.

Yes mine is similar, it tilts, twists etc, but as it is sited above the F/F it is about 2 metres off the floor and needs tilting downwards, then as you approach it to go into the F/F the picture looks like I have saturated the colour, and if walking past the F/F the picture nearly disappears, on the microwave is perfect as it is at eye level and as it is in the corner I cannot walk past it or look at it from underneath, and as this is a money saving site I don't want to spend another £11.50 on something that would not be of use to me.

Looking at it from a bed is OK as you are in one position, but in a kitchen or other room where you are moving about it doesn't work.
