  • I have almost waist length hair. It gets washed in supermarket cheapest and rarely gets conditioner. mostly it gets tied back and ignored. i usually get a hairbrush full of dead hairs by the end of the week.
  • My hair is well past my waist and i keep it in good condition by using a good shampoo and keeping the ghd's to a minimum i have only noticed i have been getting more split ends when i didn't use a heat spray the best one is GOT2B it's 3 pounds in superdrug and it also acts like a serum. Maybe it's bigheaded of me but my hair is stunning and i always get complimented on it

My hair is waist length and planning on going down to classic length (tops of the the thighs).

First thing about breakage is heat styling damages the hair. If you can avoid it, don't heat style it at all. Don't brush your hair when wet as hair is at it's most flexible then and more liable to breakages. Also invest in a wide-toothed comb, wooden if you can get it, or if you want to stick to a brush, get a boar bristle brush, or a mixed one with nylon. Avoid the ones with little balls at the tips as that makes breakages worse.

I also find that drying my hair with an old t-shirt is more gentle with my hair and soaks up the excess water much better.

Pure unrefined coconut oil is amazing as a leave in conditioner, plus it's not expensive and lasts ages. I have a pot I got for £10 that will last me a year or more as you don't need much for it to be effective. A small fingernails worth of it covers all of my hair, it's solid so just get a little and rub it between your hands to liquefy it and run your hands through your hair.

I also have a pair of hair scissors (that are used for my hair and nothing else, DH is banned from using them) and I sit down every couple of weeks, put on a long film and hunt for and trim away any split ends I find. I haven't had a haircut in two years (when it was down to the top of my bra strap).

It all works like a charm for me, hope it's helpful for the OP!
