I think you'll always get some amount of breakage, I've just had a few inches cut off my hair (it's still long, hadn't had it cut for 9 months as was abroad) but my hair still has some breaking off (a lot less though).

I reckon you're fine for now, just when you use conditioner try not to wash it off straight away. I shampoo my hair, wash that off, condition it then do all my other shower jobs (wash body, exfoliate etc) and THEN wash off the conditioner in my hair.

Second this. I do the same with shampoo actually, uses less and works better. I tend to read a chapter or 2 of my book while my conditioner is on - love reading in the bath:D

My hair grows like grass, so I get a good couple of inches cut every few months which seems to help. I aslo use curl creme every day, which protects my hair. Perhaps you could try having more cut off next time?

Definitely breakage not baby hairs there are little bits over my white t shirt :o They are less than 1/4" some are only a few mm's in length

I cut down on all heat styling whilst it grew. Since it got to a certain length I have started occassionally straightening and blow drying. Just to stop me looking like a cavewoman . I will look into those Tigi products.

What I was wondering was are my expectations of having long hair with no breakage unrealistic. Are a few broken hairs on my tshirt inevitable as long as its not effecting the look of my hair? iyswim

Yep I get that too I always have a few ends break off but my hair looks in good condition shiny etc I think its normal unless you do nothing to your hair like colour, dry, straighten which unless you wanna go around looking abit dishevelled then most people cant do:rotfl: I wash my hair everyday and as my hair is wavy I have to dry and straighten it every day(sorry hair lol ) to keep it looking sleek and nice.
I would defo try them tigi Products I said though as my hair feels so much softer and conditioned too!I first got them from the hair salon i go to but they were 20.00 for the 2 but I now get them off ebay as loads of hair salons on there selling them but i always use the same seller and only 12.99 for the 2!:D
Do you use a heat protector too? That may help stop the breaking!Ive started using paul mitchell super skinny serum so I think that help too!

    Soz for the long post:rotfl:

Shopaholic I do use a protector, I have also started using the frizz ease 3 day straight to try and cut down washing and straightening. I used to use tigi products but couldn't afford to keep up with them so I will check ebay out.

    I've been Money Tipped!
I have curly hair that is probably about brastrap length when dry but down to elbows when straight and wet (only time I see it straight!). Since reducing the shampoo washes I do...I still do shampoo, just not as often, I coditioner only wash and ATM adore Ren...whch is not an MSE approach to CO washing, but is a nice one, my hair is just a couple of inches longer. Otherwise, despite very, very rarely using a hair dryer and diffuser (about four times a year) I still do get breakage. Things beyond my control...like weather and heating in places I don't control it don't help, and neither does tying it back all the time....but I need it back both because styling products for curly hair are not cheap and also because it gets in the way and frizzi-fluffs in the outside environment where I work and want to look decent.

I like tigi too, or my hair does.

I get mine off a seller called unwind me and theyve always been good!! Like I said I got the 2 for 12.99 but they do have the huge size tweens for 24.00..I know it sounds alot but I wash my hair everyday and my hairdresser reckons these would last about 10 months so prob works out no more than regular brands in the end!;) I dunno if ive turned in to a shampoo snob lol but when I dont use salon brands my hair just doesnt feel the same and I think they fade my colour!!

My hair's now past my bra strap (really need to go get a trim!) but I don't get breakage... There's always been a heck of a lot of shedding goes on, especially when I wash it, but they are full length strands, not little broken off bits IYSWIM?

Have a chat with your hairdresser, you might need to change the way you are treating your hair, like if you brush it hard then don't, or start using a deep conditioning treatment once a month, or something. As the hair is now older at the ends it may be drier than you've been used to and need different looking-after.
