hi all
i have had virgin for about 12 years now and am very happy with them. however later in the year i am moving into a new build development that is wired up for sky. there is no cable tv access.
i would like to keep my phone/tv/internet with one provider to keep things simple.
i have been looking at sky, but i am finding they are more expensive than virgin. i thought there prices were very similar?
with virgin i have;
virgin HD+ basic package
phone line with free w/e calls
10mg broadband
i pay about £32 a month
sky will be
sky+HD with the one compulsary package
talk freetime free evening and w/e calls
broadband unlimited (comparable to virgin i think?)
the price for this will be £37.25
but on top of this do i have to pay the line rental of £11.25?
i find the sky website so confusing
i need a good internet speed as that is what i am used to
i only need the basic HD channels BBC1 etc
many thanks

I like virgin packeges... still now

With Sky you would pay:
1 entertainment pack £ 20
HD Subscription £10.25
Unlimited broadband with Sky Talk £7.50
Line rental (with Sky or BT) £ 11.50 ish
So it all adds up to around £49.25.
I may be a little out due to VAT changes.
Note if you don't take out the HD sub, you will still get the FTA HD channels BBC,ITV,Ch4 etc.
Look out for any special offers M&S vouchers and the like.
PS Check if you can get Sky LLU broadband, avoid Sky Connect.
The broadband speed you get depends on your distance from the exchange, noise internal wiring etc. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
hi
thanks for your reply
i imagine the wiring will be good as the place is a brand new build with sky built in
so can i get the free HD channels on a basic sky+ box then?
i only need the basis channels as that is all i got with virgin anyway0 -
Check with Sky, but as far as I know they only send out Sky+HD boxes.
You can use the mapping feature on the Samknows website to estimate the speed you might get. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
our website is not the best.
Variety pack with 6 free HD channels £19.50
Line rental with free E&W calls £11.25
Unlimited Broadband £7.50
£38.25
Get your self down to one of the shopping centres and get
Free HD box (that all we send out now)
Free install
Free BT line fitted
and 3 mths free BB
hope that helps

thank you daniel
you must work for sky then?
that is a more reasonable price
i didn't realise that i could get the free HD channels without the HD package. i don't need all the HD channels.
is the sky+ box similar to the virgin+ that i am used to?0 -
I did point that out in my prevoius post.
The Sky epg is similar to the Virgin one.

yes you are right, you did point that out.
i am just getting my head around this sky thing.
i have been with virgin for so long i am out of touch lol
i read on here that many people are going the freesat/humax route for HD tv, so am reading up on that
thanks0 -
Could be a good move, I used to have a Humax freeview PVR and would recommend them, no reason to doubt that the freesat versions are just as good.
I'd be looking out for HD capability, and internet connectivity.
Something like the Humax Foxsat

yes something like that
i could then just take phone and broadband with sky for £20 pm
(if i pay the phone line rental a year upfront)
i hear sky+ is great but that the humax is very similar
i hope that sky broadband is ok...0
