got back from disney in paris yesterday i drove there and back and know i was flashed on the A1 between Paris and calais yesterday by one of them forward facing cameras in central reservation.
was doing about 90 at the time so defo speeding, may of set off more if they were bridge mounted as would not have realised.

basically i was wondering if the french can persue me for the fine/s or is it a lost call for them?

i know i should not be speeding so not after a lecture about speed etc just some advice on the action french authorities are likely to take if any.
thanks

I was told that the French where actually going to trace UK drivers for any speeding offences in France.

Pity the UK Police didn't do the same for all these Eastern European drivers driving round London like their !!!!!!!! are on fire.

Beware, you will get lots of opinions on this one and very few answers.

yes i was thinking that,i know i was in the wrong but hey its done now i was just hoping i would get some advice on likely outcome.

i did read the UK gov were going to reject the EU speeding plan but cannot find any info about what happened in the end think the last info i found was from 09 when Gordon Brown was still at the helm,if nothing has changed since then i will be fine so long as i do not drive this car in France again as the gendams will probably pull me wanting payment.

sorry my mistake GB was in favour of the plan but this new lot said they were going to block it in nov 10 but i cannot find info if this was actually the case or when the plan was likely to be in force.

I was told that they were going to start tracing UK drivers by a mate that has lived in the South of France since Uni'.

I also noticed lots or Police cars on the Autoroutes, Subaru Imprezas, and motorbikes, didn't see any UK drivers pulled over, but apparently the French Police where getting upset at the antics of a minority of UK drivers, and an increase in accidents in areas frequented by UK drivers aswell.

Though the French Police prefer on the spot fines to speed cameras usually, or at least that is what I have been led to believe.

Have no quotes or links to back this up, but I trust my mate, after all he has lived there withhis French missus for nearly 20 years.

In the OP's position, if he hasn't heard anything in a month then he should be in the clear.

At the moment there is nothing in place which allows the French to charge British drivers if caught on an unmanned camera (being stopped by a Police car is a completely different matter, however).

If something does come through the post, just lob it in the bin.
  • They would also have to prove you were driving, which I think might be just a tad difficult.

He said they were forward facing cameras, so very easy surely?

I was flashed in France in October, doing about 120kph in a 110kph zone, didn't receive anything.
