Was I in the wrong?

Thought u may have had a car that sparked fellow road user rage. RX8 is fairly harmless.
Clearly the man was not a cyclist.0 -
No, you were entirely in the right. ASLs are an important safety feature in that they protect cyclists from traffic turning left, well, traffic in general. If used properly of course. I wish the police would fine people for stopping in ASLs. The worst culprits tend to be private hire and buses round here.
If you think about it, it wouldn't make sense for cars to be allowed to use them when there were no cyclists there. What would happen if the lights were red, a car was in the ASL and a bike came up the cycle lane and got to the ASL to find it full of car?0 -

Exactly what I was thinking! Most people who live round here have little or no respect for any other road users, be it cyclist, or car driver!
The road I was at today use to have 2 lanes at the traffic lights, one for turing right, the other for left. Now, after road changes, there is quite clearly one lane for vehicles and one smallish lane for cyclist's. The amount of people who still carry on and treat the road as if it has 2 lanes is untrue! I often use this road and always turn right, so many people try and squeeze down the side of my car so they are right next to my car (and practically have their wheels on the pavement and are completely covering up the bike lane!) is unbelievable! Some people are obviously in such a rush they don't have to follow the rules of the road!! :rotfl::heart2: Newborn Thread Member :heart2:

A couple of years ago now I was cycling to work and a car was stopped in this box. I politely told the driver he was not supposed to stop in them, and they tailgated me for about 1/2 mile shouting the most vile abuse at me - I was really scared. Now I just give them "the look" instead.0

Hi,
At numerous traffic lights, those big red boxes have appeared with a bike painted in them. I never park over them and stay behind the white line. I did the usual this morning and I had a guy behind me beeping and making hand gestures, I just ignored him. He them got out and banged on my window (I didn't open it, I had my newborn son in the car with me). He shouted that I should pull forward into the red box (there were no bikes in it). I just sat and looked forward and carried on ignoring him!
I don't get it........ You've stopped at traffic lights, people often stop short of traffic lights. What else was going on here??“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

These large painted boxes at junctions may only be a large City thing, they are everywhere in London, you can be sure a cyclist is never in them, only pizza riders, the cyclists just jump the lights in London.
And, no OP, you where not in the wrong the person that berated you is just an uniformed numptie, his waist measurement is almost certainly a larger number than his IQ, and e was in a hurry to get home for a nice healty kebab with extra chips.0
