** HELP NEEDED with Christmas gift mobile! **

:o Not sure if I should even be asking here, but the advice has always been good so here goes:

Mrs Codger's mobile is a Nokia 33something or other, 'won' at eBay auction four years ago for thirty quid which has worked fine ever since. Except: it's always needed almost constantly re-charging, once, sometimes twice a week. Me, I have a Nokia 9something or other, which charges in 15 minutes and lasts a fortnight. But then, it did cost a lot more.

I'd like to buy Mrs C a NEW mobile for Christmas, one which doesn't need charging up so often. Ideally, it would be nice to transfer her number / sim card from her old phone (she's on Vodafone PAYG, as I am).

I'm baffled by all these new-generation phones with Cinemascope cameras and quadraphonic sound plus the ability to download the whole of War & Peace in audio book form in under 5 minutes.

And when I've looked on other websites for help, they always seem to be addressed to people at least half a century younger than me. . . :o . . . which means I haven't a clue what they're on about.

If anyone knows of a mobile phone which looks, er pretty, but which doesn't need re-charging frequently (Mrs C only has hers switched on for a couple of hours each day, and uses it maybe three or four times a week) then that'll help my Christmas planning immeasurably.

Thanks, gang! :T

Thanks anter! Well, er, um, is the first link there so as to afford the phones listed in the second link????? ;)

I've clicked on both and the Samsung merits a second mortgage for us oldies whilst the first is a guide to calculating interest rates on borrowings. . .

  • instead of pay you go what about contract with cash back like most of us on here are doing ? this is my third year free phone and free calls via cash back.

Hi terrier -- I don't think we spend anything like the monthly amount on PAYG that we'd need to commit to a contract, unfortunately: my last £20 top-up was four months ago and my wife's, three months back.

We just don't use our mobiles that frequently, so on that basis my wife's phone has cost £30 divided by four years' use (no idea what that works out at) whilst my Nokia has cost £120 divided by four years. . .

Oh, hang on, just found the calculator: wife's Nokia, cost to date excluding calls, £0.62p per month; my Nokia, cost to date excluding calls, £2.50p per month.

Only reason about thinking of a new phone for her now as a Christmas prezzie was because her Nokia does need a heck of a lot of re-charging (always has) and I wondered if there was a new mobile with greater, um, staying power?

See my post from last night!
As Terrier lady said (above) why pay for PAYG when you can get one for free!
You even end up saving on your home phone bill as you have plenty of time between you to make all the calls you need!
Not been paying anything for over 3 years now!

Many thanks to everyone & apologies for belated acknowledgment, tst tst tst!

    As to Martini. . . .

    :T :T :T :A :A :A :T :T

Have just gone to the website and signed up, and now an email has arrived to say this, er, thing will arrive in the next three days, it has Bluenose, Wapping and Meg, technologies which to me are, quite frankly, amazing (though there's no indication of a Button B that you press to get your fourpence back).

    Anyway. . .

    That's it. We're in the 21st Century.

Hope to Gawd these people make their refunds on time otherwise Mrs C will murder me, but as Martini has had no trouble and as Terrier seems to think this is the way to go, well. . .
    Wa-aaa-ay to go!

    * Does anyone know if we can get Freeview on this phone?

** Is it possible to acquire a motor car on a similar basis?

You have to apply for the refunds. Keep every bit of paperwork you get when you receive the phone. Read it all very carefully and if anything is not clear, then come back and ask.

If you're late claiming or send the wrong invoice back or the wrong peice of paperwork, then they will not pay. Remember, they are relying on you making a mistake to keep their money.

Just had an email to say we can't have the phone anyway.

They want me to ring and discuss alternative "amazing offers".

    Hmmmm.
