Hello,
First time poster! :beer:
When I was in the BArker and Stone house store on the 5th Jan we decided on the two units but due to the lips on one of the units I had to go home, measure the space that it was going in and phone the store to confirm if it would fit I was advised it would.
At the same time I also asked if the depth on the other unit was succficient to fit my AV amplifier in that I had recently purchased. I was advised by the sales rep that she would have to go back to the manufacturer and ask, as the depth sizes were not present on the brochure. She phoned me back and advised that the unit was deep enough to take the amp, she even advised that if it wasn’t the unit is handmade and it may have be possible to have a deeper unit made, but as the standard unit was deeper enough this wasn’t required. I then went ahead and purchased the goods.
The units were delivered with sofas. They’re beautiful! The only problem was with the unit that I was advised that would fit my amp – doesn’t fit my amp!
After phoning up the shop and complained (I even spoke to the same sales rep) they advised that they would check the sizes with the manufacter. After chasing this for 2 weeks I eventually get a call back. The manager advised that I have the standard unit and that there is nothing he can do. He offered as a good will gesture to get the back cut off! The call got heated and I hung up - angry.
The unit in my opinion is now not fit for purpose. I need a deeper unit and I'm stuck.
The whole point of purchasing the 3 units (Tall boy, coffee table and sideboard) was they fit room and the kit we have.
If originally I was told the unit would need to be modified I would have asked (and paid) for that!
If I was told the unit couldn't be modified I would not have ordered the 3 units ands we have chose something else.

To be honest that's what I want. I want the unit to house the amp.
However, I will have to purchase a 2nd bigger unit! IE it won't be free! - I don't think that is fair.0 -
Yep.
From Consumer Direct on SOGA...In addition to being fit for their every day purpose goods should be fit for any specific purpose you agreed with the seller at the time of sale [for example, if you specifically asked for a printer that was compatible with your computer]Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. After speaking to Consumer Direct that advised me to write a letter. Which I have done and I have also sent it recorded delivery as they advised I should. BSH now have 14 days to reply.
They (Consumer Direct)advised that I need to put this somewhere in the letter;
Under The sale of goods act the furniture I now have a unit that is not fit for purpose. I relied on the Saleswoman’s specialist skills and knowledge so tell me it was suitable.
Lets see how I get on..0
