Well, firstly the debt wouldn't be statute barred given those dates.

Which type of prove it letter did you send in the end? Did you send it recorded delivery?

    This one? http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=11570893&postcount=2

Or the credit agreement request? http://www.nationaldebtline.co.uk/england_wales/page.php?page=getting_a_copy_of_your_credit_agreement_and_account_details

Whichever it is, I would probably say just sit tight and see what their response is.

You may get a few more automatically generated threatogram letters before you get any half sensible response from them.

    Good morning all,

Many thanks for all who helped yesterday. I have sent request of Credit Agreement and 'Prove it' letter to HFO.

    But...... can you believe this????

Going through their correspondence I found, at the back of an Experian report they sent me, AN AERIAL VIEW of my house!!!!!!!!

This is such a blatant 'we know where you live' threat!! I can't believe it!

If I owned this property rather than rent it I'd have been beside my self with worry. Especially as it has current market values etc also detailed on the sheet.

Can they get away with this??

Report HFO to the OFT, the Financial Ombudsman Service and Consumer Direct.

They do themselves no favours, and I've heard this before about HFO - it's a clear, transparent attempt at intimidating the recipient.

Half-jokingly, you COULD send a letter back with a photograph of their offices which says 'I know where YOU live'.

I personally wouldn't worry about this, anyone with your address and Google Earth on their pc can get an aerial photo of your house! :D

They just do this kind of stuff so that you will think that you're dealing with MI5 or something, and be scared enough to pay!

Thank you everyone who has helped on this one. I have sent the prove it letter recorded today and reported HFO to OFT. They were VERY interested in the fact that I had been sent the picture of my house. If anyone else has received such a picture, please, please inform OFT.

Hi Fermi, I sent the first 'prove it' letter you list. Is this OK?

    Yes, that's fine.

Just wanted to know so that any response from them can be judged against what your letter demanded that they prove/provide.

The 2nd letter may be one to send once you hear back from them again.

Nope, none of us know exactly why HFO are still allowed to continue to trade.
