Kitchen sales - Are they for real?

Where abouts are you? Someone may be able to recommend a local independent company.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0

I'm in Manchester, so if anyone knows any good independent kitchen companies nearby then I'd be grateful to know about them.0

CKdesigner wrote: »This also poses another question - if these retailers are prepared to deceive the public in such a blatant fashion, then can you really trust them to design and supply you with the best and right kitchen for you? After all purchasing a new kitchen is one of the most important large purchases you could ever make!
That all depends on the designer. I always tell my customers to ignore the sale price and I'll do the kitchen at the best price I can. I have been known on occasion to mention the fact the "sale" is just a gimmick to bring them into the store.
My bosses aren't too impressed with my technique, but it works! Just because the company management want to push the whole sales philosophy, it doesn't mean that you can't trust the other people who work for them!!!
This may interest some people though: http://www.kbbreview.com/Home/well-wean-ourselves-off-discounts-says-magnet-md.htm0 -
As a kitchen retailer we run a couple of sales during the year. Clients expect sales and we can drop our margins a bit to offset higher sale volumes. Sometimes are supported by our suppliers who in turn may be supported by their suppliers.
These kind of genuine sales are never more than 10% discounts so if you see anything much higher than this, take it with a pinch of salt.
And for those that tend to be taken in by the 50% off plus pay no VAT kind of nonsense, here are some calculations-
If a retailer needs to make a 25% margin to be in business, £100 worth of goods need to be marked up £400 to in order to give you that discount. We’ve had to remove your signature. Thanks. Would it be cheaper to buy a Howdens kitchen (that's not in a sale) than a Mobens kitchen (that's in a 'sale')?[/QUOTE]
if you bought a Howdens kitchen and got it fitted independently it would be cheaper that getting a Moben kitchen fitted by them. I don't think they just sell kitchens without the fitting.
Moben kitchens are a better product than Howdens. Mobens normally use Neff appliances so if you do get a quote from both make sure you are like for like for the appliances0 -

Your scepticism is borne out by the following. I inherited a small Wickes kitchen which was in our recently purchased house. Rather than rip the whole thing out we decided to make it a bit bigger and update a few items. This was done at Wickes recent 'sale'.
One item was an oak veneer back to a unit, and a friend of mine said he had a piece that might fit, that I could have FOC. I mentioned this to the shop guy and he said no problem anything you add on after the 'sale' ends will still be at 'sale' prices.
My friends veneer wasn't right so I went back to put it on the order and the latest, post-sale prices were now out. The piece I wanted in the 'sale' was reduced 50% from £203, now it was priced at £147!!!!! Yes I got the sale price, and yes it was still cheaper than £147, but if I hadn't have gone back a week later I wouldn't have seen the price difference. When I mentioned this little scam to the shop guy he said, 'I don't know what they have done there'!! I just said, and you expect me to believe that, and he walked off. Shameful practices.
Isn't there some law against this type of thing?0 -
