Kitchen sales - Are they for real?

Hi,

Mobens kitchens are having a sale at the moment. Are kitchen sales for 'real' i.e. are they genuine sales, or are they just marketing gimmicks that use the same tactics as furniture shops (e.g. DFS)?

I'm not just referring to Mobens, but also the likes of Magnet, Wicks etc.

Thanks

  • They all do it its just a way to get you through the door, The best thing you can do is have a free design done in say 3 outlets and then compare everything and choose the one which you like the most at the best price.

My friend had Moben round to quote her for her bathroom - they found some units in the 'sale' and she was quoted more than £10,000 for the job. Salesman was there for 4 hours. In that time she even had to get her kids bathed and into bed and instead of Moben leaving, they waited while she did that and then put more pressure on her. They also wanted to charge her £250 for putting a mirror on the wall that she had bought.

Local tradesman did the job for 3.5k - this included the cost of the new bath, sink, tiles, etc... You cannot buy the units from Moben without them installing them, but you can from everywhere else without having them fitted.
  • The 50%off sales arnt real sales.

Shop around and find the best kitchen for your budget. If you can afford Moben then you can get a much better kitchen for your money

Thanks. Would it be cheaper to buy a Howdens kitchen (that's not in a sale) than a Mobens kitchen (that's in a 'sale')?

As someone who works for a company that has "sales" on its kitchens, I can hand on heart say: They are just a gimmick intended to get people through the door.

It does my head in. When there's a sale on, customers get the "sale price", when there's no sale on, customers get the "equivilent of a sale price."

I wish all the companies would get their heads together and do away with sales and just offer genuine pricing all year round, like the independents do.

Yes, but it's like saying "Would it be cheaper to buy an apple than an orange?" - they are very different products.

    Hi

Do we really need to answer the question?

A better question might be - Do people actually believe these so called 'sales' and 'discounts'?

When you really think about it if there really was a 50% sale then the manufacturer would need to purchase the raw materials from their suppliers at half the normal costs, the factory workers would need to accept half salaries, the fuel costs to make the products and deliver them would also need to be half the normal cost! So there really is only one conclusion, the normal selling price is very much over inflated for the only reason of being able to show a huge saving in the sale period.

This also poses another question - if these retailers are prepared to deceive the public in such a blatant fashion, then can you really trust them to design and supply you with the best and right kitchen for you? After all purchasing a new kitchen is one of the most important large purchases you could ever make!

But if an independant kitchen company offered a sale, does that mean that they were also originally selling at an over inflated price? Or do independants not offer sales, except on say maybe end of line products?

I would prefer to get my kitchen from an independant, but it all comes down to price at the end of the day. I have a £7k budget to spend on a kitchen (units excluding appliances) which is 4m x 4m, but I know I won't be able to get, say, a well built German kitchen for that price, which is why I may be forced to look at high street retailers.

When do independants typically offer sales, or is there always end of lines available?

    Cheers
