Jamesy - another thing that can affect your pings (other than network issues) is if you are already using your bandwidth such as filesharing or if somebody else is connected to a home network etc. If you only have a stand alone pc with no other programs running your pings are awful.

Stebiz, it`s a stand alone computer at the time of doing the test i was viewing this thread, what do i need to do0

Firstly make sure you have no other programs running. Then go to run and type CMD. Once in DOS type NETSTAT -A
This will confirm that nothing else is running. If all you programs are switched off and you have a list of more than say 20 lines, it is likely you have spyware on the pc using your bandwidth. If this is clear or is only using 10-15 lines and your pings are still cr*p you need to contact your ISP so that can run tests from modem to server.

Your internet speed and ping speed is largely out of your control, and a ping (to a remote site) of 150 milliseconds isn't bad.
Download tcpoptimizer if you want to play, but it won't have much effect.
