The art of Knitting magazine, help needed please?

Options
Hi I signed up with the magazine The Art of Knitting which has been advertised on TV for my mum. I rang them up two weeks ago and they said they would send me the issue's. This was 22nd February and I am still waiting, nothing has been taken out of my bank account as yet.

Should I ring them up? Also has anyone else had problems with this company?

Definitely give 'em a call :)

Although I know that some magazine subscriptions do say that it can take up to 2 months before the first issue arrives.

So give them a bell to see what's occuring :)
One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.

I also signed up for a subscription for The art of Knitting magazine - waited and waited - 6 weeks in total - called them today to be told they have no stock, aren't getting any stock in the near future and basically - Tough Luck!!!
even though their web site guarantees "you will never miss an issue" i have now missed 2 and my Husband has tried ringing round every news agent to get me back issue but with no luck. :(

I rang them today and from what I understood (very bad line!)
they are waiting for stock but for those of us who subscribed from Issue 2, they should be sending out Issues 2 and 3 together with
relevant freebies at the end of the month. :j

Annoying as Issue 4 is already in the shops and my newsagent said I could have ordered the mag through them (although of course then
you don't get the free gifts), but it looks like we shall be receiving all past isuues...eventually! :)
  • I'm having problems getting the magazine in the proper sequence from my newsagents! Went in last week to collect part 5 only to be told it'd not been delivered. The newsagent called the supplier while I was there, who told him it would be in this week with part 6. Called the newsagent this morning and there's only part 5 there to collect. Was considering a subscription but having seen the comments above I don't think I'll bother. At least I'm getting it, of a fashion, from my local newsagent. BTW, I started buying from issue 2 and got issue 1 on back order. It took about three weeks to arrive, but it turned up eventually and I got the relevent freebies.
I'd recommend people speaking to their local newsagent and seeing if they can order from them and get the remainder of their outstanding magazines on backorder. It may take a while but at least some weeks you'll have more than one square to knit to keep you occupied! Only downside is that you don't get as many freebies as promised with a subscription offer.

Just spoke to someone in their Customer Care Line (which is very geared to making people subscribe). The first person I spoke to couldn't answer any of my questions and didn't seem to understand that I didn't have a subscription - and cut me off! The second person was more helpful (in a scripted response fashion) and said that they *were* the phone number for the publishers, Hachette Partworks Ltd (which the first person said they weren't!).

Apparently the problem of people not getting magazines is because they "were not expecting such penomenal demand". Strange, because this is a re-issue of a previous partwork. She also said that any problems that people have with not having received issues "will be resolved in April". This seems to go with both subscriptions and newsagent collections. Not much good for people that haven't had any so far though.

Hope this helps a little for people that have been experiencing problems getting their magazine one way or another.
  • Just got a letter from them.

"Due to the overwhelming success of this series, we have temporarily run out of stock of issues 2 and 3. We are in the process of re-printing these issues and will be receiving some copies around end of March. For this reason, we will start your subscription from April onwards.

Thank you very much for your parience and understanding."

I subscribe to The Art of Crochet by Hachette Partworks, that I started a year ago. Everything I've read on this thread happened to me with my subsciption. It took awhile for them to finally start sending out the issues and freebies, but they finally got it right. One thing that I like is that they take the money from my bank after I receive my issues - they come with an invoice stating date and amount that they will be taking.
Hang in there, they'll get it sorted in the end! :)

That happens a lot. I waited for about 2 months for the last 3 subscriptions I made. Call them again if you are worried, but it seems to be standard procedure for many magazines.
