Firefox problem

I just change browser from IE to Firefox but it seems to be struggling to find stuff on the first attempt!

I keep getting the following:

Then after clicking retry it works,

How come?

Don't know, however have you installed the windows updates you have waiting, as the download may have caused problems opening webpages.
Also are you referring to FF3 or FF4?

Could be related to IPV6, try the following:

To disable IPv6, change the preference network.dns.disableIPv6 from "false" to true . Here are the steps:
    1. Type about:config in the address bar, press Enter.
    2. Find network.dns.disableIPv6 in the list.
    3. Right-click -> Toggle.
    4. Restart your Mozilla application and try again.
If this doesn't work, you can re-enable IPv6 by resetting the preference to "false" (double-click to toggle).

check your proxy under advanced, network settings.

also check it's not blocked if you are using a 3rd party firewall

You might want to check that it's not set on work offline by making sure that file > work offline isn't ticked

The downloads are trying to re-install IE, not sure why it wants me to do that though as I have only just deleted IE

    How can I tell if it's FF3 or FF4?

Surely you know what you downloaded?
To find out click on help then about firefox.
Why would you want to try to delete internet explorer?

    It's FF4

I just assumed since I wasn't using IE as my browser anymore then I might as well delete it, Should I not have done this?

Some sites don't work very well with Firefox although there are fewer of them now.
I'm am not aware of what windows does if you attempt to delete internet explorer, conceivably there may be some common files used by both IE and Firefox.
I'd just let the updates reinstall IE but make Firefox your default browser.
Iv'e got Chrome, Firefox and IE9 on my PC.

    Ok thanks

Was thinking of getting chrome but a couple of the reviews I read swayed me towards Firefox as they said it's better if you don't have much memory and my old desktop has very little.
