What is this Yuu bag craze?

I'm a bit puzzled about how he has managed to save up £43. Has he actually been consciously saving up? Or has he just been given money that he never got round to spending? E.g. do you still buy him sweets, comics, toys etc, or has he been forgoing all of these to save up for this bag?0

A lot of the accessories could be brought from a regular shop. The bags do seem a little overpriced but would be good for travelling as lots of space to stash bits and pieces.I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
I think it would be good if he could see one 'in the flesh' before he buys one. I remember as a child being quite disappointed at how boring some toys were compared to the excitement of the advert. Are they available in shops or only online? Do you know anyone else who has one (preferably a bit battered)? You could also take him shopping to show him similar, but nicer and cheaper, bags, and explain what else he could get with the remaining money.
If he sees one in the cold light of day, without all the advertising gimmicks, and still wants it, then I would let him buy it - but the next 'big thing' he wants he will have to save up for, don't give in on that! He may get very emotional about you refusing to buy it for him, but it will be a valuable lesson!Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!0 -

Why - when my DSD was 8 she had £2k in the bank....she saved every penny she was given for presents etc...what does it matter how he saved it?If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -

Way back in the late 60's early 70's I saved up all my pocket money, scoured the neighbourhood for refundable lemonade bottles, picked potatoes in the Autumn. Just so as I could buy a Tottenham Hotspur kit bag. I think it cost about £4 (a fortune then) and it took me about 2 years of hard saving. My Mum allowed me to buy it for my 10th or 11th birthday. Factoring in inflation I don't think thats far off your £43.0

That's different, that is something you yearned for for 2 years and I bet you got your use out of it too. this is something his mum believes is a "craze".0 -
It's his money, and it's never too early to start learning lessons about money. I wish I had some lessons like that - then maybe I wouldn't be so crap with money now!0

Just something my mother reminded me of, admittedly different because she payed for it.
Around 1985/6 there was a 'craze' for reversible padded jumpers:o I desperately wanted one, but money was always extremely tight for us. Eventually mum gave in on condition I wore it 'every single week (to a choir I was in) until it falls apart'. And goodness me, did I!!! By mid-summer my mum had to convince me a t-shirt was more sensible:p
It had Mickey Mouse on it;)0 -
My DD who is 7 has been asking for one. Ive said if she can save the money up she can have one.
She will NEVER be able to save that amount up thankfully, but if she had I would let her buy it because its her money/savings
to do with what she wants.0
